Would these decoders come factory set with engine start up and shut down sound or is that something that can be programmed in a CV? All I can get so far is by hittin function 8 on my PowerCab and the noise will just fade out slowly till its quiet, and hittin 8 again will bring the noise back slowly to normal volume. It doesnt sound real at all cause it will do it even if the horn or bell or the compressor is on...
I think I would like to outfit the rest of my sound fleet with tsunami, and where would be a good place to get those decoders at a reasonable price? One seller on Ebay has em for under $82, but wont ship to Canada..dern it...
You need to go to the qsi website and download the manual for your decoder. I did that for my tsunami and i downloaded a technical reference manual and a users manual, this will help take the guess work out of programming you cv's. Once i did that and read them over a couple times and highlighted the things i thought were important, this took all the mystery out of programming the decoder for me. This is my first dcc system and dcc train, so i had no knowledge before hand.

What he said! The QSI decoder is versatile enough, though I think Tsunami has better prototypical engine sounds. I would agree with your idea to do any aftermarket installs with Tsunami. The new QSI Titan is supposed to be a big improvement, but I have read of some problems with it. I think I'd waut until they get the bugs out of that one. Soundtraxx is proven.
