I am returning to model railroading after some years. I just went from dc to dcc and am very pleased. I am now contemplating swithcing my atlas turnouts to peco. Can anyone help me w the conversion? Is there a peco #4 and # 6 turnout that compares to the atlas #4 and #6? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Wes
I am going thru the same thing right now, too many short wheelbase sound equipped locos stalling in the yard. The Peco# 6's are pretty much the same as the Atlas radius wise, altho a stock Atlas might have a wee bit longer of a trailing tangent. (ie: longer straight past the frog)
I haven't got any #4's to compare with tho.
Best bet is to compare them at your LHC up close and personal.

peco switches
Thanks Rico. I'm assuming you're saying that the peco#6 matches up pretty well w the atlas #6. Unfortunately the nearest hobby shop is an hour away and not well stocked so I can't personally compare.

I just laid a peco "small radius turnout on top of a #4 atlas aligning the frogs the peco is 7/8 shorter than the peco at the throw bar and the same amount shorter over-all the tracks after the frog line up pretty good.
Thanks, Dave. That was exactly the info I needed. I'm hoping that peco switches will cause fewer stall outs and hesitations than I am currently suffering w many of the atlas switches. Is this the experience of those w peco turnouts.?
Wes
I do not know cause I havent laid the pecos yet.going to use them in my street trackage. which is on the other half of layout. which is not even in the bench work stage.
