I have a Athearn RTR GP40-2.I would like too know how to take off the shell.
Please help
Jason K
Jason, flip it upside down. remove the 2 screws holding the 2 coupler pockets in. Then slide the coupler pockets out the pilot ends. Then your shells should lift right off, sometimes you have to wiggle it.
Small screwdrivers help
Jason depending on what run you have they either have 4 small square "loops" that look like steps on the end of a boxcar or they have 4 tabs that have Barbs. I would remove the fuel tank (slips off with a good pull) and the couplers as mentioned already.
You need to be careful yet forceful at the same time. I usually work either the right or the left side one at a time. Once you pop the first one you will get a better feel for the rest. With either style there is a tab in the area of the rear of the fuel tank so start looking there. You can pinch the body to help but this doesn't always works. It almost never works if it is the gold series as the speaker frame doesn't let you pinch enough to make it work. Try fishing a pair of jewelers screwdrivers in there unlatch them. It may take awhile at first and work betwwen the body and the frame. If it''s the barbed style you may see where they are from underneath. Patience is the key
