Any body have any ideas on trackplans for a 10'x10' modern UP & BNSF layout with 1 or 2 mainlines with switching. I have some ideas and sketches but wanted to see if anybody had some ideas. I want to try and have a long mainline with a minimum of hopefully a 30" radius, maybe a 28"? Any switching like lumber, boxcars, gondolas, hoppers, tankers. Even if possible, a coal loading/unloading track. The ideas will be Much appreciated!
My apologies, I made a quick post before I had to leave for work. So HO scale, the room is about 10'-11"x10'-11" so perfect square, but the layout benchwork cannot connect to the walls, so a 10'x10' table that I will construct, foam being the base. I've planned continuous running, with switching in the middle, and background buildings with switching on the edges. I want to have a lumber business, scrap industry, warehouses for boxcars/tankers/reefers, etc. Multiple tanker industries.
You're not gonna get much space for an HO layout with a 10' x 10' table. You need room in the middle, and access to all 4 sides.
Might I suggest, since you can't attached to the walls, just build a 30" wide benchwork around the room, freestanding. You can use 2x2s with an L girder or box girder.
You will need a duckunder, are you young and flexible? Or you can build a drop down bridge.
Do you have a doorway? Windows? What else is in the room? Post up a schematic of the room with everything.
This is the very popular beginner's layout called the Heart of Georgia, that would fit what your looking for. You can modify it for the industries you want.
Even though I am not a 'beginner' (although always learning!) I have built a version of the HOG Railroad. I have customized the original plan to fit my needs/wants/space. It has worked out very well so far. You can check out the blog for the Dragonfly Sub at the link below. On the blog you will find track plans and other information regarding design and construction.
