Ok seeing as I am sticking to DC for a while unless I happen to get really lucky and score DCC for $100 or less with track and engine im staying with DC...now I am looking on Ebay and found a 2-10-4 engine and it is saying its equipped with DCC so I assume that means its already on board?

also how hard is it to remove the DCC part and convert to normal DC? I assume its simple but I don't want to get something for $120+ and take it apart and damage it beyond repair..

here is the engine in question http://www.ebay.com/itm/380380824811?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Ive seen alot of locos on ebay that say dcc equiped, but when you take a closer look, they should have said dcc ready. If it does have a decoder, some of them can be set to run on dc, but you will have to be able to take it to someone who has a dcc system to set the cv for analog mode. Find out the decoder that is in it and look up the programming manual for that one to see if it will work on dc.

It says right in the description "This Locomotive Can Be Used on Both a Standard DC Analog Power Pack Layout or Any NMRA Compliant Digital Command Control Layout" It has a dual mode decoder which senses if it is on a DCC or DC sytem and will run the loco either way. So you will not have to take anything apart as it will work right out of the box for you.

"Locomotive features dual mode digital command control decoder enabling operation with a standard DC analog power pack or any NMRA-compliant Digital Command Control system. With the DCC system you can digitally control speed, lighting, and direction"
