Alco PA Locomotive question

Do you mean the long hood behind the cab? The PA's had the ALCO 244 V16 diesel prime mover and attached turbo supercharger as the biggest occupant. An Amplidyne generator excitation system and the main generator were behind the engine. Electical control panels and circuit breakers took up the space to the rear of the main generator. Behind that was a large steam boiler used to make steam to heat and cool passenger cars. Some PA's that had dynamic brakes had the dynamic brake gride mounted above the main engine. I hope this answers your questions.

Terry is correct, although the toilet wasn't universal and was added to some PA's late in life. I had the opportunity to take a tour through a Santa Fe PA-1, the 62L, I think, in the San Bernardino shops in 1967, just before they were sold off to the D&H. There was no toilet in the nose at that time. Actually, it was a heck of big empty space. :) There was a spare coupler and the front sand reservoir along with some odds and ends that had accumulated over the years. The very front had two beefy collison posts, one either side of the headlight. There was still enough room that you could have probably built a 4x8 layout in there. :D

Now THAT would be an interesting project.
