Hi,

Can I use normal artists acrylics that are diluted well in my airbrush? I don't wanna mess up the air brush but don't feel like buying expensive model paint when I already have quite a few colors in normal artist acrylics.

Thanks!

No problem. I use water based paints all the time with my airbrush. Use alcohol for thinning rather than softened water (with soap) which would gum up your airbrush. Try to get 90% alcohol. Good luck.

I use disstilled water or 70% alcohol for thinning artist's acrylics. I dont use water based paints for anything other than painting the inside of box cars when I weather them. Just never liked the finish or clean up process as well as good ole Floquil. When spraying water based, just make sure you use a medium or heavy tip, not a fine tip.... it will just clog quickly if you pause often while spraying.

Get yourself a fine-mesh strainer that looks like a little funnel. Some of the on-line art supply dealers sell them. After thinning the paint, run it through the strainer to remove any globs that might gum up the airbrush.
