I bought a deluxe airbrush from harbor freight on thursday now i just got to figure out how to use it and to mix the paint. I want to weather some rolling stock and just mess around with some things. Is there any place on the net to get basics on using one? It was on slae for 14.99, got braided hose for 6.99 and filter for 2.99. I should be good to go now to get time off to try it out.:D

Try a thread search here. There have been many discussions on airbrushing. Most hobbyshops have softcover books that cover the basics, and the Iwata website lets you subscribe to an e-newsletter that discusses techniques.

Also try the manufacturers website. Badger has some tips on theirs.
Trial and error on some cheap garage sale shells is a good way to practice.

well I wasnt so much as asking just kinda happy I got one, and it was on sale at the time i have worked all weekend now I'm on vacation this week so it will get used some got a couple building im going to play with and see how it turns out.

You'll love the results that's for sure. It's a LOT of cleaning to make it work well. And get an air pump...don't use an air tank that you have to get filled. You'll use LOTS of air. Have fun!

oh I'm good on air got a 6 hp 60 gal compressor lol use to run air tools working on hotrods back when I was younger.I been on youtube watching vids, now i need to get it out and start painting. Thinking i might need to build a paint booth since i will be painting in my shop, and i got a old ventahood i took out few months back so thinking wouldn't take much to build one.Maybe good progect for tomorrow sopose to snow.

I've found that with a model airbrush, the overspray is kept to a minimum so you may not need a booth so to speak. I just paint on my desk and put up a small foam board just in case.

I will assume that your air compressor is oil-less?? That'll ruin a paint job real quick.

Really? I've got an oil lubricated unit and I've never ruined a paint job (with compressor oil anyway ;))

An oil lubricated compressor in good condition won't be a problem, and they are much quieter than the oil-less ones.

If you're spraying anything solvent based, use a vented booth, and a respirator. There's more overspray than you think! I have the filthy respirator filters to prove it, and my booth has an exhaust fan.

I sprayed a little shack today looks good but yea i will need a booth i got a ventahood i took out of kitchen im going to use and vent it outside i turned out ok for first time need to pratice some more.

I was planning to get in on that deal HF is doing on these airbrushes currently as well. Thier airbrush compressor is on sale currently as well.
