Diesel Detail Freak
So, my dad sent me two OLD Polaroid shots from the 70's (one from June 11th 1975 to be exact). I thought I should share them with you, but one is so blurry its not worth the effort really. However, here's the undated one (I'm assuming it was taken the same day).
This picture was taken in Quincy MI (Hancock MI) at the old Quincy & Torch Lake RR roundhouse. They loaded up the plow, & the engines, because the new owner did not want them on their property (not to say they EVER did anything with it, the roundhouse walls still stand today).

The Q&TL was a 3' narrow gauge RR that literally was "over the hill & through the woods. It was used to haul the raw rock/copper mix from the Quincy mines to their smelter in Mason MI, something like 6 miles or so away. Mason had the advantage of a lessor grade over the 6 miles, then dropping 500' to the water level, 2 miles away in Hancock, and it had a "natural deep water harbor" which, was really just a lake, dredged for copper export.
Q&TL was wholly owned by Quincy Mining, and was not connected to the surrounding RR's (Copper Range, Mineral Range, Calumet & Hecla, DSS&A [later Soo Line]). It was operated in sessions, with some "out" periods.
Here's the most complete source on the RR:

With a few older pictures here:

A google search returns quite alot of nice pages, including more pictures:

Two engines live on at the musuem on Quincy's old property:

(however they look way better now then in those pics!)
Lastly there's TWO models available for Q&TL items:

I hope my dad can dig up some more old Q&TL shots. I'll show off some other old trains shots later this week/weekend.
