Wed. my Atlas Turntable was working perfect. This morning I tried it & it's not working at all. One side of the plastic TT is bowed up from the heat in the building & wasn't that way Wed. I have power on only 1 end of the TT.
The tracks are all one pc. w/no seperations. How can you have power on one end & not the other? I spent about 5 hrs. today w/a Volt Meter trying to figure it out. I called a friend in NY that is an exc. electrician on layouts & he couldn't figure it out either. Tomorrow I'm going to do some more test's that he told me to try. maybe you-all can give me a few idea's too.
The turntable has a large 'split-ring made of brass to transfer power from the base to the table. It sounds like the table has a warp to it and the contact to the rings is broken. the table might be able to be taken apart via the screw in the center. try turning the table counter counter clockwise.
I worked all morning on that dang turntable trying to fix it. GAVE UP & took it out after a lot of pulling nails that holds the tracks down. Plus I had to cut all the wires going to all of the tracks. Took out the TT & took it apart. The little(tiny) sliders that are in the top part of the TT had fallen out & rolled to only where the TT fairy knows. The sliders are made out of nickel silver & has 3 pieces to fall apart. In the top part of the TT is a tiny sleeve w/an even tine-er spring pushing against a tiny cup w/a round end. The rub plate is made out of spring steel. After all of this I decided to not have anymore Atlas Turntables (this is the 2nd one to go out in 2 weeks)on my layout. Haven't decided what I'm going to do w/that area w/the new modern trainshed.
I'll think about it for a couple of days. I saw a new Bachmann TT on the inside of the back cover of my new RR Model Craftsman mag that I got yesterday. I may get one of those & give it a try, later. I just saw the price down at the bottom. MSRP for $140.00. It's made for Bach. EZ Track, but could be adapted to fit Flex track. It doesn't give the bridge length in the ad, but, if it would hold a 6 axle diesel I might look into one.
