I have a bunch of accurail 55 ton hoppers that came in that redish oxide color. I was looking around and saw some weathered ones that were still this color. So I'm gonna keep them that way before I weather them. However, the metal weights on the underside need to get painted. Which leads me to my question. Do I paint them the same redish color? Or do I paint the underside of the car and the frame underneath black? Or just the frame?

I think it depends on the railroad. There was a time when the CNR painted the undercarriage of their cars with their wooden box car red colour also the wheels and trucks. I don't know when they stopped this or started it.
