Any ideas as to how I can create a disk about 5-7" in dia (HO)? Cut from paper or .010 styrene would be perfect. I know I can use a punch .. that Micro-Mart makes one .. but I don't have that (should toss in 'yet'). I thought about slicing disks off of a toothpick .. it's about the right dia (measures .080" dia or about 7") .. I could probably 'whack' off a bunch until I accidentally got a couple the right/same thickness. Just thought I would toss this out .. see if there is something starring me in the face that I have ignored.

If you know anyone that does leather work you could see if they would let you use there hole punch. They use a punch that is like a pair of pliers with a rotating wheel. The wheel has holes of different sizes. The punch is a hollow tube that squeezes against a plate. The cut pieces go thru the tube and out the middle hub. If it will cut leather it may cut paper or styrene. I know you can do cardboard.

Good Luck

I was going to suggest a leather punch as well, as I have one and have used it to punch out small disks for modeling. Have you considered use a sheet of cardstock or even the clear plastic packaging from something you might have bought recently?

I've considered those options. In fact, my plan is to run by a Michael's today and possibly the Hobby Lobby to see what I can find. What I was trying to find out were the options other then punching out the disks from paper or thin styrene. You can never tell what you will find in the craft section of stores but .. yes .. I need to get a good set of micro-punches. Here's an example of what I am talking about. On papermodelers.com there is a thread where a Jim Nunn shows how to make down to 1mm paper rods from paper lollypop sticks. They are, it turns out, rolled from paper .. and you can un-roll them! This is an interesting article .. good way to make rods of various sizes.

A method to easily make 1 mm paper rods

Search "1/16" paper punch" on Yahoo for much less than MM. I use 1/16" & 3/32" for lilly pads and other details. The really neat thing is that you can color/prepare the pre-colored paper/card material of a thickness and shapes needed and all that is left is to glue them in place.
