This was taken a couple years ago when the UP had all these engines stored at Colton. On this day, there were 116. At one point we counted 137. The entire line is gone now, and hopefully they're all back in service.

Wow! do u have any more pic's of that?
No, this was about the only vantage point from where I could get a photo that showed the entire line. I did take more shots that day, but this was the best one. (by far)

If I'd had the time and forethought, I would have brought a video camera and shot out the window as I drove down the freeway. It was roughly two miles of locomotives --- quite a sight.

I remember that line. it was there for several months before the units were moved, or at least split up. IIRC, that first unit is an SD40m, with the 20 cylinder prime mover yanked and a 16 cylinder put in. There was also an SDP40 rebuild there being used as a yard switcher at the same time.

Dang, that is super cool. What a great photo. I wish I had enough room on my layout for all those. LOL

My Engineer-buddy custom built 64 CP Rail SD40-2's:

Here's a close up of his amazing work:

The cool thing is: He's ran every one of them when he was an engineer for CSX!

I remember driving by West Colton on my way from TX to LA twice. It was incredible to see that and was easily one of the highlights of my trips.

We train folks are a little different. Imagine how many countless thousands of people drove past that every day on their way to work and never paid the least bit of attention to it, much less had any appreciation for what it represented.

I'm sure glad to see them gone, especially if it means the railroads are getting back to work.

Wow, that had to have been a sight to see. Would love to have seen it myself. That's a excellent capture and vantage point to get all of them in one shot.
