New Train layout 6-1-23

Got a lot done since my last Post. Finished up all of downtown w/Lego Buildings & started adding sidewalks. Next is streets & lamps, etc. I've also got a lot more done w/other things. I work on my layout in the mornings & then after lunch I go work on a friends layout. He only does "O" scale 3 rail. I've been working over a month on rebuilding all of his tables in a 2 car garage. Should be finished w/that in about 2 more weeks This is a volunteer job. He only does DCC & has a large freight & passenger collection. I'll download the rest of the pictures later.

This building is a large 2 doors in the front & 2 in the back for a Fire Station at the end of the large RR Town. made out of Lego's. I use peel & stick thin foam for roof covers on big buildings. My City/Town is 12ft long & 4ft Wide. I have a siding right in the front for my tourist RR/excersion train. It holds 10 open & closed passenger cars. I made the station covered platform also out of Lego's & installed about 20 double & single seats & benches down the middle that are LEGO HO SCALE.

I've been helping a Friend rebuild his layout tables for about 6 weeks. We also added 2 extra tables that are 3ft & 4ft wide by 7ft long. He only runs O scale, so not much I can do to help him w/his Trains. I am helping him figure out a track plan though. I've been working at his place almost every day 6 & 7 days a week in the afternoons after lunch & on mine in the mornings. I told him he needs to do some heavier wiring for Drops & Buss Wires. He runs DCC & some regular engines that are not DCC. I'm glad I'm in HO. Lot more space to do things. I finally made Retainer openings for all my Tunnel entrances this week. All made out of Lego Bricks & painted w/gray latex paint.

laid down some Road Tape this afternoon. Hope it stays down w/out Elmers Glue on most of it. Some of the ends kept rolling up so I did glue those down. The Mountain scene w/HO Scale vehicles I used the 2" wide straight & the Curves for that width. the City at ground level I'm using the 3.5" width tape for all the Hotwheels & matchbox cars. I'll have to make my own curves unless I can find some on Amazon. They have some 4" tape curves & I might get those. makes a lot of difference w/the streets down. My city is 12ft long & 4ft wide. The mountains are 2ft wide by 10ft long. Here's some Photo's. 11-30-23

I finished all of the Lego stores, fire station & a large boxcar loading warehouse. I've used up all my Lego's & am not buying anymore except for small parts that I've a ton of. Still have a ton of wiring to do & hook up all the turnouts to controllers. I'm adding 2 more tables later on after the 1st of the year inside of the layout for Yards. Those will be 3ft wide & 7ft long each.

Have you ever wondered how you are going to store everything under your layout tables & be able to move it when you're doing wiring or undertable chores. Here's my idea's that I started using last year. I go to Harbor Freight & buy cheap casters & then screw them to a bottom of a board or to a small bookcase & then add clear storage boxes that I get from Dollar Tree w/a foldover top. Here's some photo's to give you the idea that i use. Always use casters, not solid mount. That way when you're under the layout & that table or cabinet is in the way just shove it out into your walkway. Get Back in a few minutes w/Pictures.

My last update on my layout was Jan. 3rd. I've got a lot done since then. Posting a bunch of pictures in a minute. This week I spent 3 days hooking up Atlas switch controls on 16 Bachmann NS EZ track turnouts. I was real surprised when I turned on the power & they all worked. I have to turn over about 6 plugs 90* for direction marking. You might see some duplicate pictures from before, but I've added some more buildings & redid some others.

I guess you noticed I'm still using Lego's for all of my structures. I'm also getting ready to add 2 more tables to the inside of the layout for Yards & then I will move all of my Transformers & sound systems & other stuff to the end of the table thats closest to what I have now. Today I'm going to work on adding 8 more plugs for my MRC walk around throttle.

I finally found some 1" Pink insulation foam at Home Depot yesterday that I'll have to get to make mountains. I wanted 2", but no one in Ga. uses it like Florida did & they want to much to ship it to me, so, before the end of the week I'll have to go buy some & get it cut in half or break it in half to fit in my 2011 Nissan Cube. The 1" is $31.85 per 4 by 8ft sheet. Then I'll go to Walmart & get some Quilt Batting for the cover. Down in Florida I never had to buy the 2" stuff because all the large Govt. buildings used it on the outside of their buildings & I always got their Scrap for free. I figure 3 or 4 sheets will be enough.
Does anyone still use chicken wire, newspaper and plaster of paris?
