Reminds me of a short story by a gent who used to oversee wrecks like that one.
On the possibility of facing a wreck in Rock Creek Canyon (Colorado, on the D&RGW's Moffat Road branch), he wrote: "We used to joke about how to handle a wreck in that spot, and concluded the only thing we could do was take buckets of brown paint down the hill and paint everthing over, as there was simply no way to pull all that dead weight six hundred feet back up onto the track.
