Wiring my layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I would be hesitant to use phone wire for feeders...but it being N scale, it's probably OK. Just keep them as short as you can comfortably handle them and make the connection to the main bus.

Ok here is what l have come up with. lm going to get a MRC PRODIGY ADVANCE 2 "SQUARED" system, all feeders will be 20-22 gauge wire
solid wire or should l use stranded wire?

Also l will need 2 automatic reversing units and 2-3 terminal strips. As far as decoders l guess l will take 2-3 of my atlas GP-30 and put decoders in them.

Anyone have anything else they like to add?:)

Do l have to run bus wires, can't l just do feeders to the tracks?

The bus wires are meant to distribute power around the layout so you'll need just one bus going to all points of the layout. The feeders "feed" the power from the bus to the tracks, since they're shorter they can be smaller gauge. For the bus use a heavier gauge wire such as #16. Remember, you'll be doing this just once, so do it right the first time-you'll be very dissapointed if you find you're having voltage drop problems because you used a small gauge wire....

You can use solid wire, but you'll find the stranded wire is easier to work with IMHO....

I'm not familiar with the Blue Point, so I can't comment on it. It seems to be used primarily to feed power to the frog. Your diagram looks to be OK...so just keep doing what you've been doing....

Good luck..!! and keep us posted on your progress....
