I was painting this Intermountain car..
Masked the “K” and patches for a blue-grey fade…
Faded with dilute Tamiya Blue, Medium Grey and White …

I pull tape off and OK it is not faded enough for my taste…
So I mix up some dilute Medium Grey / White and start fading again holding a business card as the mask..
The process goes ok till I spatter paint drops from my airbrush colour cup on to the car..

Instantly I dump the paint and refill the cup with X-20A thinner and blast the drops…
That made the situation worse as the thinner/paint left ridges around the drops…
Next up 99% IPA blasting the entire car to get rid of the paint..
For the most part it worked, but left a lot of oxidized chalky areas..see 1st pic above

When it was dry, hit the car with dilute Medium Grey / White mix, then Tamiya Clear and gave it 8 hours to dry.
Next was Tamiya custom grime mix, immediately followed by art oils and let it dry overnight..
This AM, more Tamiya grime mix and XF86 Clear Flat..
Still have to redo the trucks and wheels as the alcohol destroyed the finish on them and add a couple rust dots where there are some anomalies on the car body ( eg. the blue dot above the AT in the ATSF )

Here is a pic where I started the rehab…

PS. I have been recently watching a lot of Boomer Diorama on YouTube and he put a lot of “Don’t Panic” messages in my brain..

In spite of all your worries, it turned out really well. An observer like myself would never realize that you had those difficulties, as the car looks really good.
