What's happening on your layout?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. You could always cut the doors out. I did that to a few cars on my old layout. I kept the cut to a minimum and used different ways of replacing the doors.
As far as a switching layout, I really don't know where I'd put even THAT!
Here are a couple pics of my little corner of the world:
The desk is an L shaped unit I bought at Walmart. Wally and Walter say "Hi!" The box under the desk is my new airbrush spray booth. https://houseofhobbies.com/products/nh-portable-spray-booth-hs-e420dck

So as you can see there's really not any room for a layout. I've gotten much more into scale models, anyway. I've beenmutilating plastic building models since I was but a wee lad many long years ago! That's why I kept the Branchline Trains boxcar kits! I'll get to 'em one 'a these days.
For now, though, I'll do my railroading vicariously through the rest of you!

I recently tried ordering a panel for the door about a week ago. He is in Canada and said he is behind due to the tariffs.
How long depends on how hungry he gets.

Working on this scene on the logging level. A spring house to fill the Shasta Water tank cars. These cars actually ran on the Southern Pacific, being filled near Mt Shasta. I modified a Lambert brass pipe stand to fit in the notch and reach the car to fill the tanks. The downside is, the doors on the cars are non-operational.......

Thanks Jim....These are Accurail cars I have two of them. I did think about cutting one door off each side, and figuring out a replacement. I know Kadee had doors and I don't know who else, I just haven't looked into yet.....Do you know who else has doors?.......That's looking good

No. Since I replaced with the original door, I never looked into it. I would have reservations too about cutting Accurails,

What's happening on MY layout? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
And nothing ever will again.
Because the layout is gone.
Due to circumstances I won't go into, my wife and I found it necessary to sell our house and move into a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. So the layout had to come down and go bye-bye.
For medical reasons she has to sleep with her head elevated, and sometimes her feet as well. I cannot do that. So she got the big bedroom, with attached bathroom, because she has a queen sized bed. I took the smaller bedroom and bought a full sized bed. Add a dresser, nightstand, printer stand, and desk for my computer and scale model building. There is no room for a layout. I saved a few locomotives, and most of my 2 tone gray UP passenger cars. I also hung onto the Branchline Trains boxcar kits I, along with the test track and NCE PowerCab, but the rest is gone.
Sometimes the circle of life comes around and smacks you right upside the head! But it is what it is.
The cube on the left of the last pic is my dehydrator. Perfect for curing acrylic paints!
And nothing ever will again.

While not happening on the layout, it is layout related.
My ESU Cab Control handset has a bad hardware button on the lower right side. I've looked for help on the Euro forums without reply. I took it apart this morning hoping to get a look at the switch that this button controls, but I can't get the circuit board out of the handset, and I don't know what is holding it in place. Naturally, the switch is on the backside of the board where I can't see it or get to it. I'm almost certain it is a micro circuit board mount, momentary SPST button switch.
I took out every visible screw, and the board is loose, something at the bottom of the handset is holding it in. I checked the USB and charging openings but didn't find any sort of a retainer or hidden screws. I know I could replace this switch if I could get the board out of the handset.
The button is not programmed for anything but emergency stop for the currently selected locomotive. I have seldom ever needed to use it, but I like having one of the buttons programmed for that function just in case.
No on-line service manual, no videos, nothing on the ESU message board about this switch failing, let alone replacement.
ESU wants $149 to replace the board in the handset and Gott only knows how long I would be without it. ESU has a new handset for the system available, but not sure I want to spend the money when mine works fine with the exception of the button problem.

I do hope things turn around for you.
If you move that lamp, there's a whole wall just itching for a switching layout. You can mount an LED tube under the shelf for the lost light. It looks like you could squeeze out 18-20" in width for the layout.
