What's happening on your layout?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Not exactly on my layout, but right next to it.

On each locomotive card, I have stickers listing what the function buttonsdo on that locomotive. I spent some time completing those list, and checking that they were accurate.

Then, I spent some time cleaning up the roster on my Wi-Fi Trax wireless interface. I made sure all the locomotives and consist were correctly defined. Then I put names on the functions on the screen. Finally, I cross checked the contents and operations on both my tablet and my phone.

This should make for less confusion when I host an operating session in a week.

Big and small.

Golden Spike & Weeds happened on the layout.

Both mainlines and reverse loops were completed, wired, and a golden spike driven yesterday.

The water tower has been all over the layout, decided it looked best with the plain flying over it.

WEEDS;

Found these online 2/3 dollars a package, can't even imagine what Woodland would charge. They make some good ground cover, but nothing like this.

The visual is stunning, set them another order for a Ben Franklin.

After 4 attempts, got the hex tool size correct. Got the crank pins out, con rod pin back in and pushed a dental tool in to try to spread the pin a bit to get an interference. Also put a drop of loctite 603 on the backside. Only managed to break the headlight and one step off in the process. Good thing is she runs like before.

Wow! I'm glad to hear that you found the pin, you're really lucky that you found it. I still haven't found the pin for my FEF after that happened, and the USPS lost the replacement for it. Needless to say, it's now an expensive display model on a shelf. Ended up getting a replacement engine off of "the bay", brass this time. But I'm really glad that yours is fixed and is running good again.

Not much going on on my layout right now, other than the fact that I finally fixed a section of track that was causing trouble. I had been putting it off because it involved removing, realigning, and replacing a small section of t rack, but I'm glad I finally did, because things are running much better in that spot now. I just wish I had done it sooner.

Yeah, I was glad that I was running her slowly when it happened. The pin was laying next to the rail.

That sucks about the FEF. Which brand?

Well, it was watching a Rapido E1 pulling some passenger cars around until I heard a thunk and it stopped hard. Found that a connecting rod pin had fallen off.

Am now printing up a 2.23mm hex driver to get all that off so that I can try to put the pin back in. Have written to Rapido for a replacement. Am seriously hoping that the rest of the mechanism survived without getting skewed as it was such a wonderful runner.
steam, pain in the butt on 1 to 1 scale or HO scale ;)

Today, weeds arrived from overseas, and a US-born crane kit locally purchased is really nicely detailed, with rubber tires

The weeds showed up faster than the test set posted 12/25, proving that the more you spend, the quicker the delivery.

More; New Year's hollow day progress, having completed the mainline & double reverse loops. Switched over to the south side of the layout. Starting to build out the town of Willougy.

New Year's Day, "cue" the music. They tore down paradise and built a parking lot. Main Street west.

I guess I really plugged up the works this afternoon by bringing up the regular west bound grain run before the local got things sorted. Things got pretty backed up when I realized I also had an east bound freight heading my way. 😳
Odd thing is no alcohol was involved, 🤔

I got one of those 45-tonners and they tend to do that 😄
I really like that little thing, but it can't get out of it's own way 😉

Digging through my good junk, I found these Kato unitrack expansion joints. They go from 78 - 93mm. I have a place for these as I couldn't get my layout squared. Was off by a few mms.

Edit: found that while rubbing it with the eraser to clean it, it grew to 108mm.
