Hi all. I am having some trouble running older locos on my layout. I specifically chose Code 80 to allow for the taller wheel flanges on the older wheel sets. The trains can roll fine through most of the layout, however my problem is, on my Atlas turnouts the locos and cars tend to "hop" on the frogs and get stuck, or just plain derail. I posted a question about this happening to Reddit several months ago, and I was told to check the gauge of the wheels and turnouts with a NMRA test gauge. I, however, have absolutely no idea where to get one or what they even look like. Can somebody please send me a link to what I have to buy? I would very much appreciate it.
Also in this regard, if anyone had any ideas on how to fix this issue, I'll be all ears. I prefer not to have to replace the turnouts themselves if I don't have to. I know they aren't the best, but they're what I have and I can't afford different ones. Not running the older stuff is also an option, but darn it, that just feels like ignoring the issue. I would also like recommendations for wheel sets that fit older trucks. All replacements I have found have their axle pins too narrow and they fall right out.
Thanks!
