What is wrong with the site function today?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I keep getting database errors, pages won't load, or take forever to load etc. Who broke it???
I noticed it starting late last night, but its happening to me too.

This seems to happen from time to time on this forum. Its nothing new. It was really bad a year and a half ago, made it unusable.
They did a server upgrade or something like that and it went away for quite a while.

It took me almost 1/2 hour to even get to the login page a few minutes ago with the ubiquitous "Oops we ran into some problems" message. Then multiple database errors after that.

6 users and 10472 guests before I tried to log in. Too many AI bots sifting the site could be stressing the system. Time to start blocking said AI bots.

Guest count just a second ago was 8 to 15K less than yesterday. Things are running smooth ... right now.

Zookie7: Tried the same as you limiting the throughput, then I found a better way. Limit the hit velocity all together. A human *may* be able to do 2 clicks a second, no way 3, so any visitor that hits faster than 3 times a second, drop them at the firewall.
