What is the value of this train?

I received a model train from my father several years ago when I was 13. Since then it has been sitting in a box. Never has been used. I was currently wondering what the value of this train might be at. I figured I could sell it for some cash and let somebody else get more use out of it.

So far from what I know about this train is that it was purchased in 1988 (receipt still in the box), so its a 25 yr old train? Its made by "Bachmann" has the number "2000" written on the train and "reading" on the coal car.it even has the bottle containing the chemical to make the smoke effect. On the box it says, "classic collector series". 2-8-0 consolidation

Don't know about your Reading loco being a Santa Fe fan, but you should be able to find out thru internet searching.

Since its a model of a Reading steam locomotive, you might try posting it for sale, on the Reading Railroad page on Yahoo Groups, or on The Reading Modeler website. You can google that site. Most people who are fans of the Reading will be interested in it. FWIW, I bought the version of I think the same locomotive in a yellow box, about the same time as your relative. I think I paid about $20 for it. They stopped making this version of a 2-8-0 in the 90's I believe. As someone else above said, 'its worth what someone will pay for it.' Good luck!

This may be one of them older Bachmann models not your newer releases now from them. Its a trainset model, one you might buy for 50-80 bucks then. I thought I owned one of them 2-8-0's, now I cant find it. Anyways that model is actually a model of the 2-8-0 Reading had that they converted into 4-8-4's like the 2124, 2102, and so on. Its one of the largest 2-8-0's around. The sad fact the model is a little more toyish. If its fixed up, runs. Kadees...if to seel you may get a reasonable price for it. Beware of possible flat can motors and screeching gears, theres been disussions about how the model manufacturers did not make top quality gear trains for the kiddies little train sets you find in the christmas sears catalogues, their concepts, the kids will set up the trains have fun around the tree, and put them away and forget them, and run them to death, it breaks and by then its time for next christmas model train set buy.
You can still buy these kiddiefun train sets, but maybe they improved the drives, but they are low end models inexpensive, reduced details for those little hands to not break.

This was a very old release. It has been discontinued as, I was told, the molds were damaged. This is an accurate model of the Reading I10sa. Some of these were eventually turned into the Reading T-1, a 4-8-4 of which 4 survive today.
