5188 3-Bay Hopper MBKX 130077.jpeg

This ScaleTrains 5188 covered hopper arrived from YD on Friday. Slowly building out a unit grain train, but it'll be worth it.

I picked this stuff up at the Timonium fairgrounds model train show yesterday.

An O27 Lionel train set complete. I did put the track and trains together and they ran pretty decently forward and reverse. I just need to clean them up a bit.

Also I picked up this other stuff an Atlas Chessir system locomotive, I just need to glue the handrails and such on. Also some 15-in curve ho track, and an O27 caboose.

Also a pre-war o gauge train track where the man comes out where the lantern when the train goes by. For Christmas tree scenery only.
My first trains were Lionel 027. Some good memories there.

I learned my lesson the hard way on the Bachmann 4-6-0 locomotives. There too light; track has to be perfect or they will derail and the tender axle contact wipers do not work worth a damn. I will NOT be buying another one. They look nice; but too many headaches
That's surprising. Either you were unfortunate enough to get a defective one, or they changed something, because I have a Spectrum version and I've never had any of those problems with it. It even does surprisingly well for an engine of its size on my 4% grades. I'm sorry to hear that yours didn't work out too well.

I don't know think that this engine is Spectrum, It's in a blue Bachmann Trains box. The leading trucks derail just sitting there. Very disappointed, and the tender axle wiper power pickup leaves a lot to be desired.

Front truck derailing could be from not having enough downforce. There is a spring on it that may need retensioning (bending).

For the tender trucks, yeah wipers suck. Athearn's consolidation came with axle end pick ups on those trucks. They sell them. If not listed on their website, send them an email.

Kusojiji thanks for the reply. I will try to call Athearn tomorrow; but I would have assumed they would show the power pickup parts on the tender picture

Kusojiji, Thanks for the reply. I will be contacting Athearn Monday to see how their tender trucks work for power pickup. I looked at Athearn trucks parts online and they didn't show anything. Hopefully they still have some and they will fit. The axle wipers on the Bachmann engine barely make contact with the axle. The Athearn parts picture doesn't show any pickup connections, so I will wait and see what they say. Haven't tried putting more pressure on the engine lead trucks. Not much point if the engine doesn't run. I don't like buying something "new" and having to rework it to make it run properly

I don't think they were listed on the website so I sent them a question on their contact form, link at the top of their page. I also bought the consolidation's spur gear since I figure they would be prone to wear and would become unobtainium.

I order 2 pair today. Hopefully I can make them work

I would be interested in hearing about it. I used one set on an old Athearn caboose for lighting. Am holding the other set in reserve for another caboose in the future. I had an Athearn on pre-order, but after waiting almost a year and then being told that the tariff may increase the cost and I'd have to pay for it if I don't cancel now, I cancelled now.

Oh, I had assumed you used these trucks on a Bachmann engine like I intended to do
