What roads do you model, I tend to model what I used to see which was Norfolk and Western, and now Norfolk Southern. I also will buy and run military themed locomotives, real or Fantasy. I chased alot of Trains in the past but don't do that anymore. just too old now!

Btw guys I love seeing the UK and other European models that are posted here. Although never seeing one in real life I'm just fascinated by their design, old or newer!

Similar for me. I grew up around the Southern Pacific in the Sacramento area - mostly SD45's, SD40T-2's SD45T-2's and a smattering of GP9's and SD9's.
Some trips through Utah and Colorado in the 80's and I decided I wanted to model the Rio Grande Zephyr and D&RGW became a favorite.
As far as buying, based on my old love of the SP, I have a Genesis SP GP9 coming in about a week - there was an SP G9 that serviced the Hunt Wesson tomato plant not far from my neighborhood and I used to ride my bike along the road that paralleled the tracks that left the east-west mainline going north past the plant and onward to Woodland CA and points beyond. I found out later it was called the West Valley line, and trains would go all the way to Oregon on it until they rerouted north bound trains on a different line and the West Valley Line turned into a truncated branchline.
These 3 Rapido cars arrived this week…they are screaming out for dirt….

Ah, yeah, love SP! Bloody nose or black widow?

So I finally did an "artistic" print with my new resin printer. (In this case, it's being made into the base of a small lamp for a friend.) I won't be modeling a pile of skulls on my railroad - yet. Maybe for Halloween.
As for the recommendation of printing barrels (and other items) - I'm absolutely going to, but the first barrel print went to making a few lamps.
Now onto rail-related items - I made a lime-related drumhead (with a lime base) as a joke gift. I'll probably use that design for a model of the drumhead that we have on our passenger car at my railroad museum.
One of my next builds will be a set of G-scale inspections rollers - with brass bus-bars running to the rails - so I can work on some of these 'fixer-upper" locomotives I bought.

How about heralds? People can adorn their layouts with them. different sizes. I wonder if that would be allowed?
Or station signs like Union Station. Give it some texture like an embossed stamping.
Just received two ho exact rail (scale trains) 50' high cubes. They are really nice. The printing is small but clear. Its amazing what they can do now.I really did not know how well the freight cars a built now, detail printing, etc.
Even though I have been in the hobby for 30+ years I decided to sell off or givin away most of my stuff that I bought in the 70's and 80's. There is no comparison of what was made then and now. That includes both freight cars and locomotives. I love detail which I was lousy doing and sound and detail in locomotives!
Hit the LHS today to pick up a pair of Kato F units I had on layaway, found some other HO rolling stock but the FAVORITE thing I found was an ancient Tyco switcher matching the one from my first train set when I was a kid!

Received this Mantua 0-6-0 today from fleabay. Poor wrapping and boxing destroyed the drawbar, but I looked closely at it and it had been 3d printed, so I did the same. It runs very well but has a gear grinding noise, so will investigate that. Took it all apart and cleaned it out, except the tender which has some rivets that I need to drill out before getting wet. This little beastie comes in at 400 grams, which is a little under my Kato GP35.
EX_LSWR locomotive in Southern livery
Locomotive now in Leeds, Scarcroft & Wetherby Railway war time black livery, with LSWR carriages.
I shall be ordering a nameplate for it, soon.
My pre-order came in today from ScaleTrains (right before we move thankfully)! I got a BNSF Heritage 3 scheme ES44AC locomotive. Can't wait to run it on the new layout!

I've never heard of anyone getting into a hot water over it - and that includes a few actual businesses making custom stationary with fallen flag railroads on it. (And besides, if anyone wants to come for me, it'll be the feds because I'm a little too silly for their rules.)
And yeah, that would be easy. When I was in high school I used to sand-cast metal plates for railroads and builders plates out of scrap aluminum cans.
I'd love to buy a UV printer - they're like an ink-jet, but they use a UV curing colored resin as the ink. They can actually build up material like this. If you've ever seen a painting, or rather a print of a painting, where you could actually see the brush strokes, that's how they do it. Allegedly there is a reasonably priced one coming to market sometime soon. Time will tell.
I live in an industrial area (Warehouse district in New Orleans), and I overlook a machine shop. I stopped by today to introduce myself. They are cool with me stopping by and 3D scanning things to make scale models - so I'm sure I'll have fun with that when I get the time.

Awesome! Right up your alley!
I should have queued off of
@NorthBrit 's statement about a name plate. Name plates would be awesome as well. Although they might be kinda small and I don't know if US railroads use them or not...
Most of my locomotives have nameplates
The diesels are the same as the 1-1 locos.
The steam locomotives are -----
Kirkstall & East Seacroft Railway all have Greek Mythology ones
Dewsbury, Leeds Railway are (or will be) members of my family.
Leeds Scarcroft & Wetherby Railway locomotives have names of towns or villages the line passes through
