What are you buying this Month?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I ordered this yesterday for my G&D 2-8-0 discussed in my "How can I clean an open frame motor?" thread.

I’m buying a remotoring kit and DCC electronics for my old Athearn Alco PA. It’s the earlier model with open frame motor that is failing (two open windings). Ok, it’s an old shell with attached grabs, so why not just replace it at not much more money? Sentimental value. It was my first locomotive, and was named by my (then) eight year old daughter.

Shell and chassis are re-harnessed and awaiting parts.

Well, no purchases for April didn't work out. I received an email notification from Modellhbahn Shop-Lippe informing me that my pre-order for the Dual Mode Br.249 Vectron arrived and had three days to order it.

So I ordered it. Should be here by Thursday or Friday. This locomotive went into service late last year sometime. It is the modern/retro paint scheme. That retro paint reminds me of the old Br.232 Ludmilla. Operated by Deutsche Bahn Cargo.

This is a Trix all metal model. Should be a great runner and puller. DCC & Sound. Extensive lighting and sound fuctions.

Thought it might be interesting to see what people are buying for their layouts each month and to maybe use the thread to learn about different items and so forth. Perhaps show people some things they may have never known about or considered buying. Pictures are a must of course ;)

As I have just gotten back into the hobby, I had to catch up on a few things, not the least being:

Just getting my layout going. Have bought many items, Menards UP F3 set, UP caboose, Snotty’s coal mine and tipple, Lionel REA refrigerated box car, etc. just don’t tell my wife😜

i already have the Real Color Markers, but those will maybe perfectly fit for my figures.
the real color markers are more for weathering or also buildings and cars.

will let you know about them, when i did test em out.

And here’s the old PA remotored, testing on DC. I had to mill out part of the frame to fit the longer motor and flywheel. 2-sided tape and a zip tie made a very solid mounting. I had to futz with driveshaft bits, but eventually eliminated the offcenter vibration.

I’ll hold off on installing the decoder until my controller comes back.

ScaleTrains is having a warehouse sale. This might be the most pressing I have seen with STX and their emails

I have been trying to restrain myself but I just ordered quite a few tank cars that I don’t need but can be weathered and sold. I have been looking at the diesel units and I am very tempted. Diesels are harder for me to sell but…

Flat car loaded with a toy road grader.

Got rid of the toy grader

Working with O scale, the size has some real-life problems to solve.
The problem is to glue the rear tires to the deck.
IMG_2812.jpeg

How ....... jack up the rear end?

Pretty funny, put 4 spots of glue under the tires seems to be a good idea >smiling<

Just for info, the fast-dry glues are good
Quick with little or no time to adjust the part.

This one
I read about it on a plastic model Forum, and gave it a try. It has about 1-5 sec set time, and total cure hours later

That's it for now

I'm going to a show tomorrow! 😁 Who knows what ill find...
Best wishes on the show!

I’ve turned off the ordering of NEW freight cars and diesels until further notice. I see Walthers and Athearn via their direct emails the last couple days have held off importing into the US anything new. 145% tariffs understandably are hurting their business plan.

I’ll be searching even more closely the FB sales sites. At this time not planning on attending any shows

I have my eyes on Athearn's Gas Turbine coming in May 2025. But I'm hoping they will have the Veranda version- rather have that.View attachment 217113
I pre-ordered the non-tender (early gas turbine) version from Train World a year ago or so. I see they are finally arriving in May. I also pre-ordered some Union Pacific express boxcars that are Athearn/Roundhouse. I was hoping Intermountain would do a run of the express boxcars but I have never seen any.
