What are you buying this Month?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

HOW DID YOU MAKE OUT? LOL
Not well!

I don’t know how but these showed up Wednesday the 2nd. Ordered Monday evening. The deal was too good to pass up.

I admit it, I’m weak. BUT, when there up is money in PayPal, it’s meant to be spent!

Last year I pre-ordered an Athearn Conrail GP15 in the Operation Life Saver Scheme...It's expected any day now!

It has front and rear ditch lights which I love because I model more modern times when the old GPs would have been updated with ditch lights...Perfect! I'll post a pic when it arrives

Technically i bought them last month but they arrived the other day, problem with mail order and this thread title 😆.
There is actually 4 of them, one off cam :)
Now my mallard "museum train" has something to pull! Still am missing the brake coach, the restraurant and the other classes. Not sure what these are as they are private chambers but have 1 and 3 on the doors. Is that first and third? I would have thought 1st class would be separate.
And yes i know one is the wrong way round, i just put it like that for da foto :p

Yes, first and third class is correct, there is no second class coach, just the brake composite (brake van) and Buffet coach to find, you should have 2 more 1st class coaches, (not 1st&3rd) remaining 2 should be 3rd class to make the complete train.

So what happened to second class?

In a bid to increase revenue from carrying passengers, 2nd class coaches were downgraded to 3rd class by simply not cleaning them very often, as ladies and most middle class passengers we're not prepared to sit in the dirt and filth deliberately left on the coaches they had little choice but to pay the extra for a clean compartment in 1st class.

ahhh, figured it was some kind of corporate shenagins. Either smell the 3rd class or pay more. Sounds like a plan 😆
I am just surprised they had first and third i the same carriage. I have been and travelled extensively in India where they still have 3rd class (i was in 2nd class sleeper) CA: 2002 the bar/restaurant was in the middle of first and second class with third class being at end of train, no beds just seats, not even sure if they were allowed in the rest of the train. Which is horrible on many levels but i can imagine Georgian Britain being the same.

I bought this off FB. It should be here in a few days. I have several passenger trains, all of which are much too large to be anywhere on my downsized layout. If I stay where I am, I'll probably sell them for someone else to enjoy, rather than storing for a decade for "someday".
This will be the sole provider of passenger service.

These (I did on Thursday anyway): https://spraygunner.com/airbrush-kits/by-type/gravity-feed/gsi-creos-mr-airbrush-procon-boy-ps-290/
and https://spraygunner.com/paint-cup-150ml-for-gsi/
and https://www.kilz.com/primer/kilz-klear
and https://www.homedepot.com/p/Handprint-48-in-H-x-24-in-W-White-Pegboard-109099/202093803
and...about twenty five paper grocery bags.

The project--we'll see if it works--is to cut, dry and then preserve multiple bags of flowers of a weed (not "weed") which I think is called "Cow Parsnip." Dry 'em out, and (hopefully), preserve them with thinned down Kilz. I originally thought about spray cans, but I couldn't find them here...not more than six anyway...and Amazon can't ship it. Plus, a can covers only about 12 sq feet. Well, I've already collected nearly thirty bags of the stuff, and hope to get around a dozen more. So the idea is to preserve them EN MASSE*.

[* if you ever want to go big, or just dream about it, you gotta "think like a manufacturer." I am NOT gonna decal long strings of N-scale hoppers, but I can sure ink-pad print 'em, for example. Or have it done.]

Supposedly the Kilz dries somewhat flexible--I'm hoping it's going to be like the Liquitex Mediums, which I'm familiar with, but on a more industrial scale. Hopefully pull them apart, stick 'em in the pegboard and give 'em a coat of preservative, thinned as needed to avoid clogging the brush/mini spray-gun. Probably several front coats, and at least one on the back, so they (hopefully) can take the punishment from years of Free-moN module transport, setup, teardown...you get the idea.
I think I've got enough for many, many feet of modules already, although I'm hoping to snag fifteen bags or more as the growing season ends. Which is RIGHT NOW.

Wish me luck. Updates as events warrant and film at eleven.

I just stopped by The Train Shack in Burbank. Picked up a set of ConCor semi's and two well cars, and a couple other items. Now, to make some container cars with a 3D resin printer...

Hi We go there from time to time as our son lives a few miles away. The people are great- really knowledgeable. Selection is really broad- Z to G scale stuff. We had a large outdoor layout in G scale when the kids were little, but the knees wore out... Still run UP G scale around the Christmas tree. Now, we go for Z (our son) and N (us). It is fun chatting with the guys, too.
