What are you buying this Month?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I THINK that's the one AirbrushNo5 has there.

As most know, it's one of the early per diem cars. Plate C, often FMC or Pullman-Standard built.

"Back in the day"* the colorful per diem cars like that one were typically built using undecorated (black styrene) Roundhouse kits and Microscale decals. I still have all the HO decals I bought then, but never applied, and I'm pretty sure that Tex-Mex set is one of them.

IIRC the basic car cost about $8 and the decals about $6. They did come with trucks, but Kadee couplers added another $4 or so, and then you had to paint it. Floquil cost around $4 (of course you then had enough to paint several more cars too).

Given forty-odd years of inflation since, the Athearn car @ $32 compares quite well, IMO.

2 Years and 4 months later, Accurascale Class37/4 arrived, 21 pin Loksound 5 included, and it's a beauty.

I got 3 Tichy Train 53" flat cars kits
AK Interactive Wood effects and weathering book plus the wood effects #2 paint set.
I thought I already owned the #1 set 🤦🏻‍♂️.
Plus the paint I need for the backdrop and base of the module.
I did a video on that and I'll add it to the other thread when it's done.

Lots more Kato track 😳
I have decided the west end is going to be a viaducted high line over a city/townscape with a lower level storage yard.. scarmage to follow when I can get on my PC

Yay it arrived.. so still counts as "buying this month" 😁 still missing the viaduct easement curves though.. out of stock 😠 but will make do with some non viaduct ones until I can find them.. I have another spot for these. Once i get this lot in place i will almost have a proper complete closed loop layout rather than some temp unittrack supported by tables and lots of books!

For this bit (at least the viaduct and some more concrete track for other parts on the city end:

Re: Particularly the second photo in post #382, that's just stunning, the diamond, brushed metal plate below the cab doors. She's more than a beauty--that's "supermodel"* material right there.

I agree, they've got themselves a reputation for accuracy for all their models, and take on board what the buyer wants.
