I guess I just prefer to be able to walk into a store, see what I want, pick it up, feel it then pay cash for it there and then and take it home with me. Just an old fashioned kinds guy :)
I Don’t have a LHS either. Most things I don’t mind purchasing sight unseen, but Locomotives and Rolling stock would sure be nice to look at before purchasing.

Even with the 100s of Locomotives and Rolling stock on the shelves, he rarely has what I want. It's a great store to use if your modeling more modern stuff. I'm looking for coaches from late 1800s to early 1900s. No such luck. Plus, I'm more of an Athearn kit type, I love to build and paint.

Problem with that is that different RR's had different meanings for signals. Main one you need are.
Red means stop; green means proceed, and yellow means caution or approach, usually indicating that the next signal is red.

Then you have yard signals, turnouts, station's etc. going to be a long list.

But 100% great idea.

I truly do admire those who can build their own turnouts and track. It isn't something that I would even contemplate trying so well done guys and absolutely, start a thread when either of you start doing your builds.

Not buying, but If any of you have plans to build an N scale Helix, I have the track for you!

I heard that Tony was going to build a big one, so I thought I'd offer my stash of curved Kato super elevated double track... 🤣

More than I would ever use...

One of those items where shipping is a bit prohibitive.

I'm considering getting a table for a local show coming up in May. I have several hundred dollars worth of Kato stuff I'll most likely never use.

Edit to add: All this track was in an auction I won last summer. The seller apparently had an N scale layout with a helix. There were plans with hand written notes about building a helix. I love have spare pieces, but there are over 100 spare pieces, LOL.
