What are you buying this Month?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Ahh, "squared off noses"? I don't think any F7 had a squared of nose - this one certainly doesn't.

I have quite a few passenger cars so yep - they are a MUST. Of course, I could go look at MT and see what they have in a set, another set :)

Hang on, what is that I spy - An MT "Virginian 5 Pack Heavy Weight Passenger Car Set" :) 😀 What I really need now then is a Virginian F7 - whether they ran them or not :)

Prices have settled down, and supply chain seems to have stabilized... N scale wheelsets are back down to a little over $5 for 4 wheelsets, or enough to put new wheels on a piece of rolling stock. For a while there, the supply was short, and prices were high... Seems to be better now.

So, I bought a couple packs at the LHS to show some support. Also picked up a couple packs of Bettendorf trucks since they were back to semi-normal costs.

I just picked these up from my local train store. I had the boxcar converted to Kaadys which was a nice upgrade. I need to learn how to do the X2F to Knuckle swap on my own since I keep having the people at the shop do it for me😅. Anyway, got my first HO-scale rolling stock. Can't wait to run these behind my Daylight and for people to get upset with me doing so😂

You'll lots to choose from - personally, I'd look at an F7A and B Unit, or even just the A Unit. They are nice little engines and not that expensive either.
As much as I like a good F Unit, I kinda want something different and more personal. There are only a few F units that I really want like the Great Northern #274 or the Bachmann Hawthorne Village "Oregon Duck Express" F9 A-B Unit but I digress. Being a product of the 21st century is rather get an SD 39-2 or an SD 40. I see so many of them around where I live and on local lines I feel like that resonates with me a little bit more than the classic F units.

I am probably also done purchasing locomotives for this month however. I just bought a HO Scale New Haven Budd RDC Locomotive #121. I plan to turn it into Trrmet WES #1711 just like how it occurred in the real world. Should be quite the challenge but I think it will be a fun foray into customs and modeling the whole WES fleet. Making the Colorado Railcar Aeros has been quite the struggle, let me tell you. No real blueprints for them exist online...

Swapping out couplers is quite easy, if you look at the ones you have you'll work out how they go together yourself, also looking online at KD's and see how they go together makes it pretty self explanatory.

One of the guys at the shop said he had a specific tool for putting on KD's on the boxcar. It is a Lima car with the couplers attached to the trucks which makes it awkward too. I am still learning about what kind of couplers fit into a specific spot and area. All of the part #s and everything has me quite confused at the moment but I feel like I will learn over time. Quite the learning curve on couplers lol

True, the hobby can be quite a steep learning curve all in all, but don't worry, we're all ready to help, the only dumb question in this hobby is the one you don't ask. :)
