What are these Brass Loco models and why do they cost $900?

Everything is boxed up right now and I promise I will get pics once I get my bench work up and some track laid. All I have had for trackage the past six years was 12' on a 6" ledge in a spare bedroom so I finally decided to do something about it and put everything away and I am in the process of painting the walls and I hope to start construction in a couple of weeks.

Is your room 12 X 13 or larger?

I had a layout in a room the size of 13 X 11. How I miss it.

12x10'. I wish it was bigger but I am happy to have anything at this point.

That is not bad. You can have nice large radii in the corners probably 36" on your mainline.

I once had a layout in a 9 X 12 room with a lift-up section at the doorway. Regret not taking any pics of it only scenes.

i cant even think about affording brass , MTH & ATHEARN & any articulated steam is about as far as my payscale will allow , but this time im planning ahead , the new girlfriend is being immersed into the world of trains :cool:
she will comply with my monetary needs for high end steam since she in the leasing to own phase of the relationship, ;)

Yes, you can!:D Most of the brass I've purchased over the years, except for 3, have all been older OOP locomotives, including, PFM, Akane, & NJ International.

I have very recently seen on the bay, an Akane 2-6-6-6 Allegheny, that is of the same vintage as the one I own. Price, had a buy it now, $225! That loco was gone in less than 2 hours! Another was a PFM USRA heavy 2-8-2 (how many roads had these????) that went for $150!

You have to look at each loco differently. A search last year for Frisco 2-10-0 decapods brought up 5 different locos. All were of the next to last, and last run of the model. One model was absolutely exquisite! DCC, sound, and absolutely fabulous paint job! Price, $550. Three of the others were lower, $400-$250. The one I bought was on its third round, no sound, no DCC, and a poor paint job. I was the only bidder and got it for $150!

A new motor and paint job was all it needed, and now its running well on the Alabama Central! Quiet as a mouse, DCC installed, and it out pulls my spectrum Decapod so much that the Spectrum may be for sale soon.

All it takes is some very judicious shopping, avoiding "buy it nows" and waiting for the right moment to grab that much desired first brass loco. Don't worry about missing one, another just like it will appear soon.
