Purchased a set of Walthers Gold Line 53' well cars and was pleased to find that they are diecast metal with metal wheels.

Are all Walthers units metal?? metal wheels??

How about Athearn, Atlas, A-Line, Kato, Intermountain and anyone else??

Do they have metal bodies and wheels??

thanks ,,, ken

Material is irrelevant; the final weight is. If you look at a typical intermodal train, it will typically be made up of various car types, and not purely one style. In regards to models, if a car is underweight, simply add weight to the bottom container to bring it to NMRA specifications. That and good metal wheels will aid in tracking. And if you want to run it empty, do what the real railroads do - run it, or them, at the rear of the train.
