Nice pic to save for future weathering Jeffrey. Very cool!.
I started a cool little scene. I am a halloween junkie (designed and operated a couple small haunted attactions) so I ended up with 2 haunted house kits. One is a Vollmer's Vampires Castle still boxed and i also picked this up cheap. Its a Model Power Haunted House kit. This was a fun little build. Not sure if this is its final spot on the layout but just placed for pictures. I primered gray and weathered with Bar Mills powders. I added some crawling vines. I want to weed the yard where it will be placed for good and add more details like dusty windows, trees, weather the fence, grown over walk, and more junk.

Tomorrow our club takes an excursion on the abandoned East Broad Top lines..I'll bring some shots back. Have a great week everyone!

Ah, the weekend! Looks like Corey's got some steaks on the hoof there...... You might want to put out a watering trough for them somewhere, maybe next to the barn.

I have been doing some work on a new "Name" Pax train for the SLOW. Can't yet share too much about it until tomorrow night, but here is a teaser....

OK, I can now show the rest of the train I put in here yesterday. The train was entered in the Division Model contest today (took 2nd. place). This was put together by me for several reasons. 1. I needed another "name" train for the layout anyway. 2. It is named after the Newsletter for my NMRA Division (Lakeshores Division). We have just this year got the old Newsletter going again. The car #s are significant. Given the info I just gave you, can you figure out the car #s??? Here is the first coach in the consist:

Second Coach:

and the 3rd.:

After unpacking and putting away all the Division stuff today. I decided to do a bit of tweaking to the Rivarossi Coaches and Baggage car. They were derailing constantly, comming uncoupled every time the loco hiccuped anywhere on the layout and i didn't like the look of the distance between the cars. This, for instance:

So I pulled off the el cheapo whisker type couplers that come with the cars and tried to figure out which Kadee couplers might work on them..... Got out the bunch of #5s I have (I use a lot of them) and they, of course where considerably shorter. On the other hand the distance between the cars would look right. So I put on a #5 and couldn't get the bracket that goes under the coupler pocket to not scrape on the coupler.... I was taking the #5 back off and figured tomorrow would be a run to the LHS when... The light bulb went on. The little bracket would fit just fine if I turned it around and put it on backward. So the cars are now no longer uncoupling every 10 feet, and are derailing much less often as well (still have to do some tweaking. One problem on one car was a truck was too tight....). Now they look like this:

Ray, I've noticed a pattern of what looks like year dates in your car numbers above. What is the significance of each?

Well.... The name of the train is from my NMRA Divisions resurrected Newsletter . We started it back up after many years of having no one to write and publish it. After a conference with my Secretary about some NMRA related stuff (I am the Superintendent of the Division) he emailed me and said he would like to start it back up. The gentleman is already publishing an online MR newsletter for a local audience so he was already set up to bring back the Lake Shores Limited. The car #s represent some important years. In 1935 Al Kalmbach and a group of other modelers started something called the NMRA. In 1947 the Niagara Frontier Region was chartered, and on March 4th. 1962, in Rochester, NY a group of dedicated modelers formed the Lakeshores Division. I joined the NMRA in 2003.

I was looking for a "Name" Passenger train for the layout, and wanted to do something that could celebrate out division as well. I entered the "Lake Shores Limited" in our division Modelers Choice Model Contest (nothing more than some bragging rights) last Saturday. Came in Second Place.

Interesting, thank you for the explaination. I love the train name and the numbers just add to the uniqueness of the creation.

I've never been a member of the NMRA or any train clubs over the years though there have been many available to me throughout my MRing days. I guess I've just always been a bit of a freelancer all around.

Andrew,

I absolutely LOVE that shot! From the look of the track, I'm guessing it's an O scale model (Lionel? MTH? I'm in to HO scale, so I don't know the "bigger stuff" as well) -- but what really makes the shot is the angle you took it from. It just shouts out how massive a locomotive really is!

When you do get a little more permanently situated, I look forward to seeing more of your pictures.

Thanks for sharing!

Regards,
Tom Stockton
