Thanks Secret Weapon (Got a better name we can call you?) The city is very much a work in progress.

Those are some impressive locomotives you have there, N or HO?

I got to spend some time running trains with a special guest today. Thought this might be a good place to share! My two and a half year old granddaughter came over (with her family) for dinner today to celebrate the new year and as soon as she got her coat off ran over to the basement stairs and said, "Tains Gampa"! She still needs some work on the 'r' sound. We had to postpone the run until everyone had finished eating, but we got down there and fired up some trains.

By next year she will get to try out the throttle herself......[:D]

Ray, what a great way to spend the day, and a very cute granddaughter. My youngest granddaughter is now 8 and loves to play with the trucks and cars on my layout. DJ.

RICO and DJ, thanks! She is the Apple of her Grandfather's eye! Notice that she is always following the loco wherever it goes. She and her little sister are real sweeties. This is the first time Olivia wanted to go down to the layout before she got out Thomas to play with. She was standing on a plastic crate that she gets out and puts away all by herself.

Some progress shots.

First is the Cranberry Iron Works machine shop, I built the deck, crane, stairs, and smoke stack this afternoon. Crane was all scratch, used an O scale pulley for the top mount and a HO pulley and hook for the lower, rest is just bits and pieces of scrap, and yes it does pivot. Stack has the clean out door modeled along with rivets all along its length. Prototype was built in 1890 so way before welding.

Next up is some more progress on the HO car float. It is time consuming laying the decking between all of the rail supports on the Walthers kit but when I took it in to the hobby shop it was a hit.

Last is the large planer for the O scale machine shop. This is the biggest machine in the building with over 100 parts. It is the only one not connected to the overhead belt drive system, you can see the electric motor that drives it (it was also electric in the Sierra RR shop which is what Western Scale used for their model).

As usual, outstanding work everyone. Mark sent me down some Athearn RTR tank cars to have some light weathering applied. Here's the results.

SW, looks like a nice, busy scene.

Ray, at least there was one cutie in the room. :) Moments like that are just priceless when you're a grandpa.

Matt, you take on jobs I wouldn't try in my wildest imagination. Rehabbing that car float has to be the most tedious, exacting job you could have picked. Sure looks a lot better where the planking is down though.

Jerome, nice looking tanks, especially the two shorties.

Did a little faning today. Stopped by a small industrial park just in time to see their ex Conrail GP7 pull a tank car from fuel distributor out to the Great Lakes and New England interchange.

The crew had to wait as unit ore train came into the yard with the 3 gray ghost sisters the two RS-3ms sure are ugly but they were running just fine with the heavy train, recently this train has seen some crazy power heard from a little birdie that tonights train might have a C628 leading.

Jim: The decking on the car float is tedious, if I hadn't needed to keep the exact alignment on the tracks I would have done this from scratch using a solid wood plank for the hull form.

Finished building the planner this morning for the machine shop, it is now in the paint area.
