Can't post pics in message so here it is and the link to the car I looked at minus the rust. You can see I tried a different type of wash but was too heavy. I cleaned it off and used the airbrush to get a lighter cover.

I was working on some strange color Potash cars that I faded with a fairly heavy duty mix of Tamiya x-21 base 50/50 with Isopropyl Alcohol.

Done 3 times and waiting for approval. That’s it no colors, no rust, nothing just the heavy fade. But no pictures until I get permission. I have had these cars since September but the client finally said at Christmas I could work on them. I think they are done. That is it for client projects left over from 2022. It’s many Rapido cars from the MidwestModelRR website. The picture is from there also. Very fragile, like look at it and a part falls off fragile. Worst then the Genesis fragile stuff that I used to rank #1.

Back to my stuff. 3 DNAX tankers of which I was able to find 2 of the 3 actual numbers

looking at fade and some rust but not many available pictures

Next is determining how to do the green fade. I had asked CambriaArea51 about his green fade. That‘s why he posted right above this post. Thank you Tom.

There’s no urgency on these. So they may get done quickly or not. It’s all depending on my mood and the weather.

That‘s all for tonight

I am waiting for a gentleman to show up to look at my unfinished Transload module.

After looking at the original photo you used and the car you actually did, I much prefer your version, looks more natural, maybe it's just me, but in the original photo the weathering looks kinda forced if you get my meaning.

Thanks. Yes I know what you mean that's why I did it differently.

Tom, I agree with Smudge, a little more but evenly. The ends and the top could some more.

Good evening
D2F3500B-EF15-47E3-A6E6-472B76D19231.jpeg

Above are 3 green GNAX 25000 gallon tank cars and 1 NATX 25000 gallon tank car in black. Bottom of the cars getting some grime build up. I will decide Sunday if more is needed.

A couple TBOX brown box cars that I guess I wasn’t paying attention to when doing the picture shoot. The picture of the floor is unworthy to be seen. But they have been faded to acceptable standards.

I had a guy pick up his 25 Rapido fragile Potash covered hoppers in Salmon color. I only faded them, deeply faded. But when he picked them up he wanted the couplers rusted. 25 pair of Kadee #148 metal whiskers. I sent him for lunch while I did them. Actually I had them and just pulled them from inventory but he ticked me off today. Lunch paid for the couplers that he will install. His fault not mine. He wanted to know how I faded the cars and what did I use? Normally I would discuss this willingly with someone who asks that but today, I felt like the Geico Insurance Gecko. It’s a secret recipe! He did laugh. Actually it’s not a secret. Tamiya White X-2 the full 10ml. bottle for 25 cars mixed with 2ml of X-21 flat base into a separate bottle and then 15ml of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to thin. Sprayed 3 times with trucks couplers and wheels removed. This is the guy I did the paper mill for so no pictures. Glad I am done with him for awhile.

I promised myself I will stay out of the hobby room from 6pm tonight till Sunday at noon. Somewhat tired of weathering and very frustrated with looking for 2 more NATX tankers, waiting for a return authorization plus the credit for 2 TILX 25,000 gallon tank cars and finally my grill on the deck was frozen under the snow/ice fall we had last night and almost to noon today. Yep, time to veg out

So far so good. Only went into the train room for a diet root beer in the refrigerator. I did not look at the weathering bench…

The TILX tank cars are mine. He decided it’s cheaper for me to keep them then him paying the freight back to him so a happy deal was cut

The 2 NATX tank cars are due in Wednesday. They were shipped today per the tracking number

I got the Microscale tank car hazard placards today. More coming from Highball graphics. It'll bring these tank cars up to date, besides they look better with placards.
Agree on the placards.

The only reason I don’t add the decals besides hating decals is I churn my personal freight cars over so much, it’s actually easier to sell the cars without

I had a guy tell me it’s hard to remove decals. I suggested a drop of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol let it set a couple minutes and see what happens. His response was that was too much work…

And that's why when you look on Youtube at a layout you see shiny equipment. The few that are weathered were bought that way. There's so much to this hobby that people miss out on. Even though you can get small buildings put together, plastic shiny just makes it look out of place.
