Well it was time to bust out my home made static grass applicator, which i made years ago out of a fly zapper:

Maybe about $30 in all the parts invested in it, as opposed to $100+ for a genuine one, but hey, I'm frugal.

During a recent trip out west, i have finally stopped over in Leadville, Colorado to check out the town. Leadville was a major mining town for many years. First gold was discovered, after gold was mined out someone found silver, which created another boom for the town. When zinc was found very valuable for the industry, that became the main mineral and eventually molybdenum (moly-b). A few shots for possible later themes:

We drove in from the south and driving into town, a fuel stop was made and a mural on a warehouse discovered:

Many of the old buildings are standing, presenting a wonderful image of a western mountain town:

And i have finally stopped by to photograph the C&S (Colorado and Southern) 2-8-0. C&S was a subsidiary of CB&Q, and that's why the logo on the tender:

Great pictures! The mining structures look like some of the stuff I'd like to build, do you mind if I study them for my own needs?

Beautiful pics. Back in 2018 my son and I rode our mountain bikes up to Hagerman Tunnel (near Leadville). There's just so much left of the mining and railroad history out there. Great place to visit. In one of my DVD videos there is footage of that C&S Consolidation under steam.

That's great! Thank you! I see that you even got to see the CM caboose. I never saw it in person, but I knew that it was there.

Beautiful pics. Back in 2018 my son and I rode our mountain bikes up to Hagerman Tunnel (near Leadville). There's just so much left of the mining and railroad history out there. Great place to visit. In one of my DVD videos there is footage of that C&S Consolidation under steam.

That's cool! Did you also get to see the old Busk/Ivanhoe (later Carlton) tunnel as well?

Yep, and the old trestle remnants on the climb to Hagerman Tunnel. Crashed my brains out on the way back down. Picked up the full suspension Specialized bike, hoped back on and rode it like a crazy teenager on the rest of the trip back to the truck. Probably not to smart, LOL. We had a GREAT time up there.

Instead of laying grass, i decided to fill in some holes and crevices on the railroad in preparation to laying the balast and foliage by the rails:

But my main objective turned out to be laying rails in the roundhouse:

Filst many lines had to he either erased completely or redrawn;

Next the rails went in:

I still have to wire all of them and also the turntable itself. The roundhouse went in temporarily again:

But at least now i don't have to put any locomotives on the side, since everything fits. I'll have to put in another track on the side of the roundhouse, both for pictures and the fact that many roundhouses had extra tracks on the side anyway for junk, washing of locomotives or more space when needed.

I still have to put in concrete floors around the rails to make everything look like a one piece inside.

Either way i have to now solder a few joints in the roundhouse tracks and make sure the turntable works as designed. Last track is in front of the sidewall of the roundhouse:

And i have just added a very short piece of track which i had laying around, to extend the coal dump track at the locomotive service area:

I will have to do some thinkering on how to deliver coal from the coal dump track to the coal tower. It will obviously be some conveyor belt custom made to fit, tbc...

Looks good! If it helps any, I wired all of my layout as duel mode, including roundhouse stalls and the turntable. It's all hooked up to DPDT center off toggle switches. I mostly run DC, but if I want to run something that's DCC, all I have to do is flip a few switches and fire up the system. Here's a picture of my master panel that might give you an idea of how I did it.

Sure did! There's also some Tyco and Bachmann stuff in the mix.

So looks like you used toggle switches to switch between DC and DCC (they are 3 way I'm guessing, also to shut off electricity completely from chosen track?. I guess you have used Atlas switches for the track switches (?)

Is that a four-wheel pony truck on that Q hog, making it an O-5a? Or just a Mike? What brand? I, too, run both DC & DCC, flipping back and forth as needed with a DPDT master toggle on my main control panel.

No Sir, this is just standard issue Bachmann from probably 1980s or 90s at the latest. Basically a fantasy paint Santa Fe 2900 class redone as the "Q".
