I am busy building an On30 logging layout and while researching other peoples work I have noticed a great deal of them using what look to be real sticks as scale logs. They look really good since the bark looks scale but I'm curious what species of tree is being used?

Thoughts?

How about posting some pics of the scale logs you made with a description of the species of tree used to make them? That could not only be helpful for me but for others as well!

Ah yes, The Badger Creek... one of my favorites!
(RIP Paul!)
I use sticks and roots on my HO layout with no problems and will on my On30 layut also.

I like that idea and plan on going down that road when the time comes for that to be incorporated in my layout. In comparison to plastic, well, there simply is no comparison.

Hi Buffalo Bill
I'm in HO and one of the most realistic types of bush to make Redwood logs from, IMHO, is the Bottle Brush bush. It's naturally gnarly and when stained up looks great!

I'll have to take a picture and post it.
