I am using an NCE Power Cab to control my trains. There is no on/off switch on the unit, for neither the Power Cab itself or the plug in transformer. The LED on the control panel, where you plug in the Power Cab, only lights when you plug the control unit into it.
The manual does not say anything about whether or not you should leave the power cord plugged into the wall, or if you should unplug it when not in use. Anybody know?
No harm unplugging. I have mine on a power strip/surge protector and just shut the power strip off with its switch at the end of a session.

Yup! Plug it into a power strip and use the on-off switch on the strip. I use power strips for this same purpose at various places on my layout (14 x 13' 7"), for not only my power packs, but local lighting wall-thingies.
I've gone one better. The layout has its own power line from the main circuit box going to a regular light switch box attached to a leg of the layout. As I leave, by throwing this switch, all the sockets mounted onto the layout are killed.
Thanks! I have two switched plugs in my shop, so I will just plug the unit into one of those and control it from a regular light switch on the wall.
