I don't see anything wrong with your deck. They age, get scraped, etc. Looks good!!

Thanks… it isn’t so much the look…
The paint was really thick and chipped rather making clean lines…
Even using a brand new blade..

One thing I've noticed about doing weathering. It's random, chaos, never the same thing twice. On 60' flats like yours, sometimes I use stained Lazer cut wooden decks, other times I use a sanding stick to rough it up the paint. I'll grap some picks when I head down to the shop this afternoon .

I have some Rapido wood deck bulkhead flats…
I have to imagine weathering real wood is easier

On the deck beside the scratching, I was doing some Raw Umber and Van Dyck Brown oil staining, some Tamiya grime mix random overspray… then some very dilute Raw Umber brush flick spray spotting…
I had some white paper under the car..it looked neat on clean white
I think I’ll try that on a light colour hopper body

I came up with a couple of decks that applied a little gray over and sanded down a bit.

Decks wear, stain, mold, and other abuse get them beat up. Just the wood deck trailers at work have brown, tan, black, and gray from weathering.
Here are a couple I did using lt brown, lt rust, grimy black and lt gray.

I like to leave a couple boards clean to look like recent repairs.

FYI the car this Atlas model represents actually has nailable steel decking.

Not all flatcar decks are wood.
