So I decided to give some weathering a second try. My first try did not turn out good as it was pure freehand. This time I found some proto pictures to work from. Now I know the numbers don't match, they are not detailed out with all the grab irons, handrails, hoses etc... all I am looking at is the weathering. Am I going in the right direction with workmanship, techniques and so on. All was work done with dulcoat, acrylic paints and powders.
First is an ex Vulcan Ortner car now belongs to IGTX.
These are the proto pictures I used
And here is the car I did.
Now this one is another Ortner car from Algoma Central.
And here is my version
Well this only my second try at weathering and I know I still need allot more practice but let me know what you think. Constructive comments are always welcome.
They were red. FEC ortner hoppers weathered he same way, to a pink color. If left long enough they fade to a beige color. A couple of years ago Microtrains did an FEC gondola in N scale that was called a beige color, but the car was originally red with yellow lettering that faded to the beige color. Microtrains color was actually very close to the color of the car at that time. Red fades quicker than any other color.
