Hi I'm new to this forum. I'm from a small town way down in coastal south Texas where there are not many trees. So my On30 layout is time period late 1920s to just before WW2 in the gold fields of Colorado with lots of large conifer trees. My problem is I can find how to make these large conifers anywhere without a huge amount to time and effort. I want these trees to look realistic and the size of the real tree that is 40 to 100 feet tall is there anyone out there that can help me?

Help as in make some for you, or help in guiding you in the direction of a good You Tube video???
I am not going to be able to assist because I am lousy at tree-making, and I don't use conifers on my flatlands layout. But someone out there can help. You may have to wait a couple of days though, because the forum isn't really busy on summer Sundays.

Thank for answering.I need help how to make these large trees and You Tube is not much help because most deal with HO and N scale. Even when one wants to buy O scale trees they are only 6 to 12 inches tall I need BIG

My recommendation would be to buy some foreground trees but paint the bulk of the trees on the backdrop. Lex Parker is a master of this technique and his photos and videos might help. He cuts 3D trees in half and glues them to the backdrop in places to eliminate shadows on the backdrop-ingenious!

I’m not sure that you will find exactly how to build a large scale conifer tree as a step by step on You Tube but just after doing a 1st search I found Boomer Diorama and how he built his conifers and his cedar trees. Maybe review those videos and go from that

Thank guys for comments and videos.These are all videos that I have already seen and again they are for HO scale with exception of the background painting. That one thing I am looking at but skills at painting are not what they were once up on a time but I may try it. I can always paint over it and again. I still want to know how to make conifer trees that have trunks that are 2 and 3 inches diameter or 8 to 12 feet real life

Here's some examples of my trees. See the link in my post above for details on how I made them. Mine is HO scale, but the techniques I used can be used to make them almost any size you want, as can be seen by the various size trees I have across the layout.

That's what I've been using to make mine. They work pretty good too, especially if you need large numbers of them.
