ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

It seems like there are a lot of claims of reliability problems with MRC decoders on model railroad forums. I have no experience with MRC decoders but figured it's something you might check into.

One of the problems associated with the MRC decoders, is there is almost NO documentation on these. In several communications with MRC, they couldn't really tell me anything about the decoder I didn't already know from using DecoderPro on them. Many CV's, even with a booster attached, couldn't be read.

I do alot of decoder installs and of the installs that involve a changing out of decoders, most have been the removal of an MRC sound decoder for almost any other brand of sound decoder.

These were generally because the owner was totally disappointed in either the sound quality, or overall performance and durability of the MRC decoders. Most had problems of no longer working properly, or not working properly. Many would not take any new programming, or would only take part.

hi

For steam enginnees, i need decoders, which one i should buy....My steam enginees are Roco Heislers having 2 trucks...I will be hardwiring them,,,So i need DECODERS...which are the right ones to install

Really any decoder that will fit. Many of the Digitrax DN & DZ series. The TCS M series should work as well.

These are some of the smallest decoders on the market, and can fit in many small, tight areas. As long as the engine doesn't exceed the decoders capacity, any of these decoders will work.

Hey thanks.. i think i buy the TCS decoders. Will be hardwiring them and configure the address through the digital system.

....but one question

I need some more sound feature for steam locos...and on the webpage for TCS, i did not see any sound decoder,,,Does Digitrax has sound decoders...

In steam locos, sound having function will look really good..i love the steam making noise that locos used to run especially when i see the movie "Bridge on the river Kwai", the steam loco which was used , the sound of that loco is too good....

Marklin has that same loco type but AC operation :(
