Granite Gorge and Northern Again
I have been working on the new layout since February. I used AnyRail for the design- really worked well. I built up the frames with 1x3 boards; lots of holes for wiring, and used 2x2 pine with threaded insert adjusters for the legs. 1/4inch plywood on the frames, then 2inch pink foam panels. The track risers are Woodland Scenics. The gross dimensions are ~13 x ~19 feet. Power is by NCE- SB5 and DB5 with a PowerCab for control. Lots of Arduinos for system control. All of the track is Atlas, with the exception of three modified PECO curved turnouts. Now in final track testing for level, shimming and derailing checks.
Some of the rough scenery is filling in. 5V supplies (4 20Amp units) provide the main power to servos, lighting, etc. Boost circuits make the 9-10V DC for the Arduinos. All of the switches are servo driven. The turntable is a Walthers 130ft unit, with the advanced control feature. The Wyes are controlled with NCE AR10 units. The layout is basically 2 blocks- one for the SB5 and one for the DB5 supply. Detection is provided by IR sensing, using Azatrax HexDetect and Shields on Arduino UNOs. The switches (76 total) are controlled by Arduino MEGA and some Arduino UNOs with my own coding. All of the signals and lights are controlled either from the Arduinos or by combinations of 5V relays, solid state relays and my own custom circuitry.
