its been awhile since i have done anything on line. My hands are giving me a lot of trouble the nerves are kinda short circuiting and i have shakes and things drop things as i can't keep ahold of them. I may have to sale the layout and forget modeling. i will wait till may and then make up my mind what i am going to do. I will let you all know whats happening as i figure out what i am going to be able to do...

been overdue for a update, but i decided to keep the layout and try and finish it. My biggest issue is cleaning track. Some is easy but the back stuff and mountains are gonna be harder to do. i have someone that might help. also i want to get a cleaning car. That should take away the issue for dirty track. i have mostly old stuff for cleaning, so i am getting that track cleaning system that Mike sales from Woodland Scenics and see if its as good as some have said I have the Tidy Track engine wheel cleaner and it works pretty good.I have had that for a couple years now and will need new pads for it.i finished the log cabin for the fire tower up on the mountain. wasn't easy, my hands shake too much. Got to cut out the pieces for the tower. not going to be easy. i get it done i can put the coal mine back together and finish the track and scenic. updates will come. laters

what i forgot was i broke down and got the tidy track cleaning system for the layout. I keep hearing folks talking about it including Mike Fifer. So..I guess i am the next one to try. I will let you know how it goes. as for other building, i still have the fire tower to finish. It says right on the directions to use super glue. it is touch and go time and i have had the ladder thing a royal pain. its about two steps forward and 3 steps back. I guess thats the way i have to go. will have more later

well i got the tidy track system and it did a great job as in a short bit i was running a engine on several tracks. now the hardest part is the tunnels. I am going to get a set of those li'l dust monkeys and run them in the tunnels. see if that fixes the issue. will let you know. later

Just fyi,The little dust monkeys came in today. I pulled out 6 cars and loaded two cars and a spare along with a little diesel times two. so i have six cars and two diesel switchers and watch them go in the tunnels and then stall out. Went with track cleaner on the 4 cars that had the little monkeys. it helped with the tunnels. after doing this around 10 times i pulled out the monkeys and took a look at the dirt on the monkeys. they had to be cleaned before going on any more track in a tunnel. I worked and i am able to run cars under any tunnel now. So the tidy track system works real good. The main thing i used was the track cleaning fluid.
I hadn't really tried to use the layout since last fall, so the track was real dirty. trains are running around real nice.

That fire tower looks good, but I am guessing that it is a real pain in the a$$ to build. Regarding Tidy Track and Dust Monkeys - two of the better track cleaning products to come on the market. Even though my track doesn't really get too dirty, I use both. I have a dust monkey on every caboose.

it sucks! the tower is almost falling apart. I am using a models ca glue for these kinds of models. Thats what they call for in the directions.
Maybe next week i will try and put it back together and see if it will go and stay together. i will get ya know.. I hate this kit...

What is the tower made of? If plastic/styrene you might be better off with a solvent cement type glue. This stuff is really good and the needle application makes it easy to work with small joints: https://www.amazon.com/Faller-170492-Expert-Plastic-Cement/dp/B0000WROZ2
That sounds rough! I’ve used CA for attaching metal to other materials but never had great luck with metal to metal.

well, its been a uphill battle. i had the hut on top of the tower, and i lost stairs and ramps when i picked the model up to check it out. Seems that the ramps will not stay in place. The stairs are the only thing holding it together. Its being a royal PITA!!!

well, with much work the tower is finished and the hut on top is on and i am letting it dry for now. The only thing i plan to do yet is paint the spots that had glue attached to other pieces. I will do that later as i want the glue to really dry. Shots below,
