Here is the current progress. I have dug out the hole for the mountain to sit in but my measurements seemed to be a tad off. I ended up trying to use my spackle to make the fit a bit better. I am going to paint everything back to brown and use a glue/paint mixture to seal the spackle in place. I want to make sure that it holds its shape well. More ground cover work to come. On the other hand, I have started to work on some buildings made out of wood I have been collecting from Dollar Tree birdhouse kits. They feel a bit small but I have to keep tinkering. All of this is being done with exacto knives and other small hand tools so they are crude but they are what I can make. More buildings are on the way. Slowly but they are on the way. Back to progress.

WOW, you've done wonders already, really good work. I like your structures, doesn't matter if they are a little rough, it always takes a little time and practice

Thank you! Sometimes it feels like I am really flying by the seat of my pants while building this layout. It is a bit out of the norm for me. It is nice to know that people are watching and liking my work. It means a lot. It gives me the confidence to push on with my projects.

Your doing great, the seat of the pants bit, I think we've all been there at some point, all part of the fun, (and frustration) of this hobby.

Small update today. I have done a bunch of work on custom scale buildings. But first, the mountain fits great into its new spot. the hole has been painted and is almost 100% there. As you can see, it looks pretty good. Next is the dike. I am starting to plan it out. I ripped the swatch of water I made earlier to check the coloring against the layout. I just need to get a plan in place for it. I like how the water looks. It might be a bit light but heck I'll take it. Ignore the paper from the bowl that is still stuck on the back of the swatch. I can't seem to get it all off but you can get the jist. Lastly are the buildings. They are quite intricate and take a bit of planning to make but they are coming together. I am working on a new engine shed that is better than the last one. It is going to take a second since I am planning the dike but I am going to work on the planning of the new shed at the same time. Things are coming together now.

Maybe some dark green paint as a base for the water under the center and fading as you go to the edges? Give it some depth, murkiness… Looks alright to me though, want to see what it looks like on the layout👍
Yeah, I was thinking about doing some coloring beneath the water just to give it a bit of depth. I don't want to do too much because that might throw it off too much. I will do some experimenting though.

Just a small update today but I really wanted to share it. I dug out the dike! I scraped it out with a wire brush and sanded it down to be more smooth for painting. I have added a picture with the water swatch to get a feel for how it is going to look. I plan to paint it a brown and glue mix as a base layer to match the rest of the layout but I might throw in some other colors along the way just to add depth. I can't wait to lay track in a more permanent manner soon so I can also ballast and add ground cover and detail to this half of the layout. Fun stuff ahead

Here is a bit of a light update. I have built a majority of the buildings that are going to go on the layout. I will paint them eventually but I am waiting for the right time to start on that. I have also built the new engine shed. I stole the hinges off of a small Dollar Tree box and all of the wood is popsicle sticks and the Dollar Tree wood I have been collecting. I think it turned out pretty good. Next off I painted the hole I dug for the dike. I have started experimenting with the kitty litter just in case since I had some lying around. It turned out pretty good and I think I am going to move forward with using it. I want to start work on the dike and laying the water. I first need to perminently lay the track and ballast and then I can start the water. One thing at a time though. I am excited to see your comments! I am pretty proud of all of the work I have gotten done.

Flipping 'eck, you're motoring along, well done, very ingenious of you, and by the way I'm exhausted just seeing how much you've achieved in such a short space of time, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your layout take shape.

I did build the original Brillo Branchline in under a month so stands to reason I could throw up a good layout in a bit longer amount of time lol. But in all actuality it has been a lot of work. I have been taking more time in certain areas and making sure things look good. I probably have been putting a bit more time than I should be into the layout. I do have other things to focus on buuut I want to get it looking good.

This is looking really good! Looks like you've been on a bit of a role. I wish that would happen to me 😃

Keep us posted!
I just keep wanting to get stuff done. I want to clean up the big mess I have on my table and that leads to another thing and another thing. I just want to get this layout as "done" as I can very soon lol.

The problem about "getting it done" is that it rarely is, there's always something that you forgot, or want to improve on, or could have done differently, such is the nature of this hobby.

I just wanted to throw this in here. It's just a short run sesh on the layout in its current state. Enjoy!
Nice bit of work, just needs a road and a bit of greenery I think, but you might want to put a couple of your buildings over the connections to hide them, but I'm very impressed, and the music is a nice touch too.
