Hey all. Just stopped by before heading to the salt mine. Flo, I'll have two scrambled and bacon please. Oh, and of course, coffee.

Johnny, ya seen anything decent yet? We went last night and saw a couple of crows... None of em had antlers. :(

Good Morning Everyone, Flo lets make it easy, I'll have whatever you've got, but you can keep the sniffles, thank you.

Rex and GrandeMan: I don't hunt anymore either. Not sure why but suffice to say, It's probably a good thing. I did hit a Cow once when working for the WSOR out of Madison. Had an old chop-nosed Geep of some kind. We were only doing about 30mph but she bolted from the weeds like she THOUGHT she was a deer. When she hit, she flew up past my window and back into the weeds. My conductor looked over, and said "What was that?" . "A cow", I replied. Shook that old geep pretty good too. I don't know if she had antlers, and my conductor didn't say two words the rest of the trip. I guess he had a hard time seeing "Cows Fly". And Grandeman; Up here we shoot even the crows that DON"T have antlers.

Flo all this talk about cows has made me hungry, and you know what for...................That's right,...............TURKEY!!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone. Hope your loved ones can all get together. I always enjoy the out-laws this time of year.

Johnny

Two big coffees for me there Sabrina. Just got back from a Immuno Gamma Globulin treatment at the Dr's, and boy am I cold. I don't think the nurses let it get entirely thawed from the freezer. Plus with the nice COLD rain and wind we got going here, every one of my joints feel like they have been beat with a baseball bat. I hate having to take these things but except for last week, that is only the second time I've had any kind of illness like that in the over eight years I've had those treatments.

Gimme two more cups please, the first two haven't worked yet!!!!

I don't hunt anymore either. Show you my luck, I hunted in the richest part of the state for over 25 years, shotgun, rifle, and bow looking for a nice whitetail. For 24 of those years, I didn't see a thing and only succeeded in getting cold. Meanwhile everyone around my stand was killing their deer. Finally in 1981, I go and at the very end of the day on the last day of bow season, I got my deer. The next year where I had my guns stored, at my brother in laws, got broken into, all of my guns, including my dad's custom made .22 automatic, as well as all of his guns, my BIL's guns and ammo got stolen. Never replaced the guns and never went hunting again.

G-man: Been thinking about what you said about the coal mine on the plan, and decided I really shouldn't tie up the siding with a train while it switched the mine. So I switched places with it and the oil/chemical facility. To give my SRR 2-10-2's sumpin else to do I included a nice turntable big enough to turn them at the mine. Would've like to include a wye, but there simply wasn't room for a wye big enough for those monsters.(I drew in a 12", but with my luck they're 14". Gotta measure them.) Plus I decided that the additional locos on the branch wouldn't hurt as it is supposed to be the busiest part of the layout! If you'd like to see it, let me know and I'll post it. The changes also allowed me to make some changes to the lower level to expose more of the nolix. Now Rex has another bridge to build!:)

Rex: Whats the lastest on the Tsunami? Got all those CVs programmed yet???:D

Two cups of your best hot chocolate to go, please Sabrina. I'll be back later, and get some more. Boy its cold!:(

I think that'll be an improvement. :)

As for the hunting, you need to come up and we'll hunt (train watch) a little.

Flo, I need some coffee fast. Brrrr! It's a cold rainy day. How about a BLT and some Veggy soup.

CJ and all: Everything is fine with the Tsunami...except.
I kind of held back until I talked to "Tony's" today, but I am going to have to get a booster for my programming track. It will not take an address or anything else in any service mode programming. I told them I never had a problem with my Chief programming BLI's (QSI). They were surprised at this, but said the Tsunami needs a bit more power on the programming track. So I ordered one. Ops mode programming works just fine. FYI: They are supposed to get another large order of Tsunami's in next week.

That does just go on the leads to the programming track doesn't it? What happens if you place the loco on the PT with the switch flipped to regular track power, then flip it back to PT after the caps charge, like some folks have to do with their BLIs?

Evening all, a nice hot chicken vindaloo for me with extra peper, anyone fance a bite.
Horrible foggy day here with viz down to 20ft at times, now it's freezing as well. Some spectacular accidents on the motorways today, at one point five were closed because of pile ups in the north west of england alone. We have now got blizzards to follow by weekend, nice if you are a polar bear.
have a look at this video taken by Don Burgess today, the overhead wires were frozen causing this great electric loco shot
http://www.burgess57.freeserve.co.uk/90026_1S26.WMV
Don is not doing any more videos due to ill health for the time being, but he says he will be back soon

Aww, you guys and your deer. My friends complain about the same thing. "I was out there for 9 hours and I didn't see a single thing  ." I always find it to be a bit humorous, as I see deer on my way to the bus stop quite frequently. Ten crossed in front of us the other day on the way home from church too. We counted 12 turkey(s?) in the same field a week later. Living in the middle of nowhere has its advantages :D. Then again, I'm just that much further from the trains...

CJ and those interested: I am heading over to my thread in DCC. Don't want to clutter the coffee shop with decoder stuff and others that don't come here will be able to see what's going on.

Hi all, not much happening here in the mid-Atlantic region [aside from steady rainfall]. Went to see my M.D. for a blood pressure follow-up, it's down a teensy bit from last time but he's still piling on the meds. I could probably equip all my locos with Tsunamies with the money I'm burning on prescription co-pays... BTW, at my in-laws' yesterday I discovered a copy of "Longevity" magazine and, lo and behold, a doctor has found a way to halt the aging process - I kid you not! He talks about eating "non-inflammatory" foods, the kind that don't lead to production of cortisol and other harmful enzymes. So I would only have to stop eating:

1) Red meat;
2) Sweetened foods;
3) "farm-grown" fish;
4) Breads and pastas; and
5) Dairy products

Oh well, guess I'm doomed to die at 85 like everybody else!:p

Rex, I'm not surprised to hear that Tony's advised getting a booster unit. I guess anything that produces the kind of sound quality a Tsunami does will need a higher level of voltage.

CJ - I see you, too, are grappling with the "turnaround" issue on your proposed pike.

Johnny - You guys could've probably had all the steak n' hamburger you wanted if you could've hoisted that critter on board!:D

Steve - any more progress on the layout recovery?

TTFN...

What's new fellas? Just hot chocolate for me. Have any of you seen the latest issue of Trains Magazine? There is a pretty good article on what Hurricane Katrina did to the Railroads in the area. From what I have read CSX was the hardest hit. Would do you fellas think? William.

Evening all, Flo a cold glass of water please.
Rain.....Rain.....Rain, all day here in Anniston. I think we've had enough for a while.
William - welcome to the forum. That article is in the Dec. issue, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.
KenL - Hope the Doc can keep bringing that BP on down.
Two more days of work, then its Trains and Turkey. :)

Take care.

Stan.

Good Evening All

Well where to start...

Steve how's your MESS?:o My heart goes out to you as I've seen some of the pictures and you seemed to have been quite well along in your layout. A real heart breaker to say the least.

Ken: smarten up as I don't want to have everyone else kick the bucket and then leaving me here and all alone. As you know I ride the mountain bike when I can and it does make a difference. Lee and I are talking about getting a tread mill for the winter as I know I'd use it and she's thinking it's time to knuckle down. As for your "diet" Ha! and Ha HA!! No thanks and I'll probably regret saying that further down the road.

Rex you can talk DCC here as I'm a newcomer and as a DCC man I get to listen to the older sages and you never know I might pick up a pointer or two.

Carey: That's one thing we haven't seen here and that's the four letter "s" word. If we don't see it within the next week I'll be very surprised. It all depends on what Grayfox sends me. You know he's always sending me "nothing but the best".

Model Bob: Nice meeting you sir. quite the spot and good coffee too!

Gotta Love it!

Fergie

Fergie, I've got a nice Specialized FSR. All I need to do is get motivated again. How do you do that? I used to LOVE riding.

As a side note, the November Photo Contest is running. Ya'll check it out.

Sabrina, I'll have a large coffee and a two-egg breakfast.

Hi Stan and thanx for the well-wishes.

William, welcome and sorry I didn't notice you sooner! A friend of mine sent me ariel pics of the damage Katrina wrought on railroads around New Orleans, especially near Lake Pontchartrain. Highly depressing.

Fergie - we got a treadmill downstairs, much safer than cycling on the narrow roads in my area.

Gotta go, teenage daughter just has to get on AIM one more time before leaving for school! See you all later...

A friend has a Specialised but I'm not sure what model, dual suspension etc. I opted out for a Trek 6500. Nice machine which I got back in May. I've logged 1100 kms (600 miles) to date and considering I was up in the Arctic for 10 weeks this summer I'm not doing too bad. I use it mostly on side streets and groomed paths. Getting motivated, well having to go to the Doctor to get my BP checked is motivation enough. I hate Dr's offices and hospitals!:(

As for motivation I put 1 hour a day aside for just riding or treadmilling. I figure it's my 1/30 plan 1 hour in 30 years out. I'd like to stick around and get the MR finished some day!

HAGO (have a good one) Everyone

Fergie

Hello All,
Ken Larson just sent you a tread mill video clip, very funny cartoon, you'll love it.
Fergie i might take some of the railroad down this weekend if i get time, it will be better next time around i thinks.

just watched a TV show about people with crazy hobbies,
one guy had over 100,000 model buses from 1/2 inch long to 1/4 scale in size.
another guy took pictures of roundabouts, if you have not seen one they are, well round road junctions a bit like a doughnut, he was a complete nut.

this weeks a busy one for me, my wife has volunteered (pressganged) me to do some work for my 4 yr old son Matthews pre school, doors to fix and nativity play props to fix for next week, oh well. And Thursday Matthew has a routine heart scan, he had trouble as a baby but it should be AOK now.

my hot bath's a callin me, later folks

Fergie;
Thought you might get a kick out of this. Since you said no one had mentioned the S-word yet. I thought I'd post something that was put up on one of the weather forums I am a member of. This is supposedly a NWS (National Weather Service) forecast for North Alabama.

Evening y'all,

Had a half-day at the office so I got to spend some 'quality time' on my layout, doing some more latexing. I'm happy to report that my garage is actually a few degrees warmer than some rooms in my house, the heat pump I installed last March appears to be doing its job quite well!

Here I was thinking that I was on the verge of restoring the structures and trains, but one final 2-phase chore remains: painting and ballasting the track. Not particularly difficult or risky, just tedious. But it's something I believe I should do before I put my entire inventory of rolling stock back on the rails. Rex, you got it right - I am bursting with excitement, but I want to channel that energy into doing the things I failed to do on my previous layout:o

Steve - I got the video clip you emailed to me, LMAO! Why don't you share it with the rest of us here - especially Fergie, the legendary Polar Bear Killer!:D

Good night gang!
