Big glass of cold milk for me this evening Sabrina. Been working on a diorama tonight. Since its for a museum it will be static. I have to handlay some protypical size turnouts for a yard. I'm having to handlay these things for a yard throat and the smallest turnout will be a #16. Only got 12 to lay so no big deal but the killer part is each tie has to have a prototypical 6 spikes. Thats four on the outside and 1 on the inside. There aren't any commericial turnouts that big available, and by handlaying them I can save some money, if not time. Even using tie plates cut from very thin styrene. The rather small facility is still taking up an area 4 x 16 feet. May be able to get some professional pictures of it once its finished. It will show an intermodel facility and have some car carriers unloading with the ramps and everything. That's gonna be fun to scratchbuild.

Started a part time job a couple of weeks ago and since we get an hour for lunch I been spending lunch time down at Irondale. First I eat at the world famous Irondale Cafe, which inspired Fannie Flaggs book and the Movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe". Food is fantastic and after the meal I can walk across the street at sit at the observation platforms the city of Irondale built at the throat of Norris Yard.

See all kinds of traffic both in and out. The other day my friend and I saw five trains in less than twenty minutes. Got a few good pix. Will try to post some once I unload the camera.

Well gotta go now, Gotta get a good nights sleep and work on the diorama some more tomorrow.

I get paid monday :P, trip to the LHS for me... Need to grab a few little things, and ask them a question.

Just wondering who was here at this ungodly time of night.

Just me!

Did you set your clocks back? G'night, all!

Darrell, timely and quiet...for now

Clocks set back and all fine here hope all have a good sunday will talk to you all later if anybody wants some metal cast n scale cars CHEAP email me have 31 of them will try to send you a pic if your interested

Good Morning! Hey, the SUN is out this morning. I thought our June Gloom would NEVER go away this year!

Sabrina, how about eggs Benedict this morning. I feel like splurging! Need lots of energy today --- a nearby LHS is closing. They don't carry large scale train stuff, but I'll go scouting for 1:24 vehicles or somethin'.

Good morning! It's a beautiful morning here in Oregon - and most of the clocks have either been changed, or changed themselves.

Good morning guys,

Well, since I never posted yesterday, I'll tell y'all how I made out. I only saw three trains, but they all had good power (Including one with ATSF on the point, remember this is PA).

More good new for me is that PSU won last night. Today it's NFL , of course Pittsburgh doesn't play till Monday.

Oh yeah I'll have a Sierra Mist.

Good Day Everyone!
Well, hopefully we have all set our mechanical/electronic clocks correctly, but if your like me, it will take a week or so to get my internal clock adjusted again. OOPS! I see the forum server clock hasn't been adjusted.

WARNING!! Do not try to sign in to the forum with your keyboard "Caps Lock" key set:o:o. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't sign in last night, "...what the heck is going on!". Then it all became clear when I started typing an email. :p

Friends, you have made some very good points about not wanting the family or non-MR's to buy you railroad goodies. I have already experienced this on Christmas with tools and I finally started using part numbers :D.

Yesterday's work with trimming up bush clippings went well. I managed to enlist the CFO and we got about 200 ready for applying ground foam and etc. It was actually fun sitting out in the sun, listening to the ballgame, and trimming up the clippings.

CJ: We look forward to seeing some pictures of your work. Why not post your weekly progress on the WPF?

Claudia: I hate to hear that a local LHS is closing. Even though it didn't carry your scale, I'm sure it was handy for other things. My LHS is mostly R/C, but was handy for ordering or small odds and ends. Then the day came when he started ripping me with jacked up prices. So now, I have to order from the web or drive to Birmingham 55 miles away.

WOW! I have had run-away keyboard this morning. Guess it's time to close and get on with the day. Have a good one!

What shop is that? Much good in HO? I might have to make an trip up there, few more questions, hours they're open, and when are the fully closed (like how long do I have to see what they got).

Josh, it may NOT be worth the trip. It's the Value Craft on 78 in O'side. Mostly crafts. They've probably moved all the good stuff out to the Escondido store already. I'll check though, and let you know if there's anything worthwhile left.

Josh, Don't Bother....

Everything is picked over, and they didn't have HO. They've even moved the Dremel items out to the other store. About all that's left is LOTS of silk flowers, sewing notions and picture framing materials.

Big cuppa Joe for me Sabrina! Just got through with another session on the museum diorama. Only 6 hours today. Its gonna be pretty, and should be worth the work.

Rex; Sorry man, no pix. Can't take any. That's part of the agreement I have with the museum until its finished and debuted. They have a very professional photographer who will take pictures when finished. But there will be none until then. I do get copies. When I get those I'll post them.

Get this... I needed to insulate the garage door, as I was losing an incredible amount of heat through there.

I had part of a package of R13 pink fiberglas insulation left over from insulating the walls, so I figured I'd use it until I ran out. Incidently, this would also keep me from using the door again until I ripped the stuff down.

Since the strips of fiberglas are 8 feet long, they wouldn't fit lengthwise across the 10 foot door, but they would fit vertically, suspended (w/duct tape) from the bar that goes across above the door - the one with the spring on it. So I started in.

And ended up with _exactly_ the amount of insulation I needed to cover the entire door. Not a piece extra, and covered tightly from siderail to siderail.

You may not believe, but I do... and I believe that this was a God thing... He knows I really don't want to spend any more money on this.

Hi everyone! Flo, I'll have three eggs scrambled well, hashbrowns, bacon, biscuits and coffee, please. (note to self, go get the cholesterol rechecked :D) Oh yeah, can ya leave the pot?

CJ, Are we gonna have to pay to get in to see the diorama or do we get a sneak preview before it goes on display? It sounds awesome.

Jeff, Good work on the insulation. I'm glad you had some help.

I've got lawn mower karma. I got a riding mower for free. The pattern is I get it running, it works great while I'm riding around the driveway and when is seems to be running strong, I take it down the hill to do the work I got it for--utility tractor--and when it gets to the lowest part of my property, something goes wrong and I have to get it up the hill.

So far, I've replaced the motor, solenoid, battery, and starter. The starter was used. Now it looks the 2nd starter is gone. It's now down the hill tied to a chestnut limb that fell in the snow we had last year. Not only do I have to get the mower back up. I have to pull about 20 heavy limbs up the hill by hand. I'm really getting tired of this stuff. It has not broken anywhere but down the hill. And it always works great until I go down the hill. But down the hill is why I got the danged thing.

Hi all and happy Halloween! BOO!

Jeff: Good idea with the insulation. I need to do something to mine, but if I tried your method, I would sure as H need to open it. Don't they make something for these doors where you can still open them? If so, where would I find it and how much?

Chip: If your motor will still try to start, it may be the carburetor float is sticking when you go down hill or it is sucking up sediment or water from the fuel tank.
If it is electrically dead, then look to see if the battery or cables are shifting against the frame. Also, some lawn mowers come with and emergency shut-off switch for when the mower turns over. This may have gotten out of adjustment. Check all of the Ralph Nader safety switches and make sure none of them are out of adjustment.

Sabrina a great big mug of ROOT BEER please. Just finsihed mowing my neighbors and my yards hopefully for the last tie this season. HA HA HA they are prediciting temps in the mid 70's for thurs and fri. whoooppeeee I love spring may hvre to dig the ole shorts back out yahoooo :D :D :) :D :D
Better make that a double went back out in this super nice weather and worked for an hour on cleaning out a fence row by the road side. I hate them dang scrub trees that grow up in a fence. Clean it out about twice a year in the spring and then spray brush killer and them again more trimming in the fall cause I can't spray after the crops are planted. I may spray anyway next year.
