The 60/40 Layout And Other Railway Related Things

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I will post a link to a channel that has some good "getting started" videos on this. JMRI Decoder Pro requires an interface with your DCC layout. JMRI Operations is found under Panel Pro not Decoder Pro. Operations has nothing to do with DCC. It can be used on a DC layout the same way.

It is only a program on your computer in which you enter the necessary information about your layout and it will print switch lists to tell your "crews" what their work is.

Yes, it can get very complicated but just start simple and you can get as involved with it as you want or just keep it simple.
That's the magic word Simple, I'm just using it for decoders, my layout is too small to need Panel Pro, I just downloaded it because it was in with the JMRI download.

I get it. It's good for any size layout if you want to get "dispatch" orders on how the cars move rather than to decide for yourself. I love it but I know it's not for everyone. Check out his getting started series if you think it's something you might like...or not :) ENJOY THE HOBBY!

Thanks, I only run a maximum of 4 trains at any one time, one switcher, one/two freight and one/two passenger trains

Just a quick update.

The Marklin cars I received earlier are now converted to Kadee couplings, the gon was easy, the boxcar not so much, the metal pin the truck rotates on doesn't come out, so I had to cut the old coupling off and fit a Kadee draft box, it's still very shiny but I'll resolve that tomorrow.

The other boxcar that I decided to repaint was finished and awaiting decals that I made, I think it's ok, but hit a boo-boo with the car numbers, they just didn't print, probably due to me wanting them in white, need to seal this tomorrow so I'll do both boxcars at the same time.

Been cutting this out all week and finished last night, just a backdrop for the industrial area.

Love your backdrop. How did you make it ?
Bought it from a company called Sankey Scenics.

This place has some really nice background flats. A lot of these could work for American layouts as well. Shipping to the U.S. is reasonable.

Perhaps someone's large yard area. 🤔

Would OO be close to Ho scale?

Well, I've given up, 3 days (well, nearly 3 weeks really) I've been trying to build my own track cleaning car, it did kind of work, but having it derail nearly every 4"-6" for the last day and a half, as well as ripping my track up simply wore my patience out, so I surrendered and have given up, so I've simplified the idea.

and bought this instead.

Where did you purchase it from?

We will expect a full review! :D

So I've finally decided to do what I should have done and build myself a
"I'm-fed-up-with-cars-and-locos-derailing-and-falling-onto-the-floor-to-get-broken-and-then-having-to-fix-them-when-I-know-it's-my own-fault for-not-building-this-earlier" retaining wall.

1"X1" lumber with 1/8th clear perspex.

Right, time for lunch, hopefully I'll get the other side done later today.
