The 60/40 Layout And Other Railway Related Things

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

So, new trucks are now mounted on the Pemco reefer, just have to paint them (again):( (Note to self, remember to take the wheelsets out this time).
I've glued and screwed a spare OO scale tension lock, this is plan A, plan B is to mount a NEM pocket if this doesn't work, looks to be ok.

There is a small section of the reefer which sticks out over the pin which doesn't allow the pin to lift so it will disengage.I just need to trial it to see if this works. I may also have to shim the trucks to totally clear the coupling, there's a lot of travel but I don't know yet if it's enough for my layout.

This is the Evemodel wide vision caboose I got earlier, still not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, either way, it needs priming.

Well it seems my plan for the Pemco Reefer did not go quite to plan, I haven't trialed it yet mainly because of this slight hiccup.

I'm reasonably sure it's not supposed to lean to one side like this, I'll have to wait for my new grinder to arrive and try and level the wagon mounting.
Ah well, the trials and tribulations of model railroading, :)

Was good to read up on your altercations Smudge, one of the things i enjoy most about this hobby is watching other’s progress, looking good 👍

Thanks to everyone for their advice and tips, finally printed out the decals, this is the second set I've done, first set went to 💩 But it's a Ink jet printer not a laser one, so these things will happen.
Sealed with dull coat, I'll wait till tomorrow to set these, I've done a few extra sets, just in case.

OK, Reefer decaled, finally, after the VMS debacle, so used the Vellejo varnish, as I know that's waterproof.
I've still got to clean it up before I start weathering it.

Also made a start on the track cleaner, got nearly everything I need bar the spring and a bit of timber, I'm not sure what kind of car this was originally, it had a metal plate underneath, and another one in the roof.

Busy finishing up projects that have been on my to-do list for a while, weathered a couple of cars, and fixed the IR module for my crossing lights, I think I burned it out with the IR beam reflecting off the wall while the table was upright, so it was flashing continuously, replaced the module and added an inline switch, so it's now off till I want it on.

I've been wanting to switch out a set of turnouts, for Express ones, so that was todays main job.

Still need to shorten the inner track and fix it down.

If I can get that done tonight I can do the wiring tomorrow, which means moving everything off the layout so I can lift it to get to the buss wire, need to wire in two droppers, remove two, wire up the new turnout motor and remove the original one, then I can start shimming under the turnout and align the point motor properly.

Not much happening today, tidied up around the workbench ready for going back to work on Monday, did find some odd jobs I'd forgotten about, like some backdrop buildings.

I couldn't find my very very small pair of scissors so I just glued these to some card and roughly cut them out.

The Micro Sol arrived this morning, so I decaled the Gondola, I didn't realise that the lettering was transparent, something I need to work on for next time.

For a first attempt at decaling an entire car, not too bad, luckily I made enough decals to do 4 cars, I'm not saying how many I have left.
