The 60/40 Layout And Other Railway Related Things

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Train room has been busy today, received a few models and the most important one for me was this Class 37/6 Euro-phoenix the penultimate version of the class 37 that was put into service.

Fitted with WIPAC lights.

there are numerous buffer details, snow plough and hoses etc. that should be added, but as ham-handed as I am, they will remain sealed in their bag.

Even cab details have been exquisitely reproduced.

The class 37 came as DCC ready, the preloaded decoder and speakers were available, and more importantly in stock, so I decided to add it myself, a first for me on a Diesel.

Other manufacturers should take note of Accurascale models, details are exceptional to say the least, but adding sound is usually a pain to do, with body removal, soldering, drilling etc. not with this, took me less than 5 mins.

No body removal, a section of roof is magnetically held in place and simply lifts off

fit speaker clips, plug in speaker and add decoder.

Wow! That looks to be very nicely done. We will expect a full report on how it preforms. :)

Your totally right!

This ease needs to be engineered into all locomotives from every manufacturer.

Glad it was easy!

Seriously, it took me less than 5 mins, I'd only watched one YT video, (and was only 4:37 long). If Accurascale ever go into North American HO even Scaletrains Rivet Counters will have serious competition, saying that I'm going to dig out my only Scaletrains loco and compare the two.

so much easier than all the soldering I have to do if I switch lol my DC to DCC. 3D printing is vastly changing the modelling world, hopefully this new company can do the same!

True, but just think what an expert you'll be when your done, and don't forget things like Track soldering, plus wiring plugs for your street and building lights and LED's

Been another good day on the layout, gave the new class 37 a run around for a few hours, and discovered the loco prefers going anti-clockwise rather than clockwise, I've a few loco's that prefer one way rather than the other, they shouldn't but they do,

The Accurascale is a decent weight and with the sound turned off the motor is noiseless to my ear, the sound (they call it Accurathrash) is brilliant, lots of various sounds like flange and brake squeal, along with the various high and low horns, engine fan etc. Interior detail is amazing as I've already posted.

Accurascale have incorporated a small (read very small) set of 6 switches which sit under the decoder, a diagram tells you where each switch needs to be set for either ESU decoders, other name decoders, and the Blanking plug for DC operation, this allows you to make the most of the (sounds) and lights depending on how your running it.
This is my second model, and I've pre-ordered another one from them, this time a Class 55, also known as a Deltic.

Another beauty for your stable.

Do you have to swap couplers on then if you were going to run them with your North American equipment?
Yes, can't miss that Deltic if you tried, not quite the one I wanted but I'm not prepared to wait another two years for one.

The North American loco's and cars are as you know are all Kadee type knuckle couplings, either truck or body mounted, The two class 37's have NEM pockets so it's simpler to swap the tension lock coupling for NEM Kadee's on the Locomotives.

Having said that, it seems there is a problem with these NEM Kadee couplings on the 37's, to get the correct hight OO scale have to use underset couplings to match the height of the coupling on the HO cars, wherein lies my problem, the knuckle coupling itself is fouling the buffer so it's not travelling as far as it should, hence my comment earlier about the CN demo hopper de-railing the 37.

I've got to repair the Pemco CN reefer as the trucks keep falling off, so I'll try and convert one end to a NEM pocket to make a transition car and use a wide tension lock, there are plenty of adapters around, but they're 3D printed and honestly most are not very good and the last good ones I had I sent to Willie and never replaced them, so I'll have order another set.

Ah, I see!

So, you pick one car and use it to couple to your European equipment and the other end will acceerpt Kadee style couplers.

You are wise beyond your years! 🤣

At least I got to our train show today, picked up a few little bridges, but couldn’t find any zuron rail nippers still, hard to come by right now.

These ones you mean ?

These should definitely have.
