The “Give Tony Grief” Thread

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

That is good to hear. Generally speaking any forum is suppose to be a place where we can learn from one another and help one another. Unfortunately all too many forums fail in that - it; therefore, nice to know that these forums don' fail in that endeavor :)

Have built up the trackside hills a little bit more:

Having a path to take is a darn good start ... one step at a time and it will all fall in place. You lay that first length of flex, then the next and you see it coming together - that'll inspire and motivate you as well. You already know that Chris and I and others as well are NOT going to let you get out of building this layout - WE want to see it done :)
Want is a strong word Tony, don't you mean,....demand😂

The whole signaling thing. I guess you need 3 signals per turnout, is that right?
As I understand it yes, if your using ground/dwarf signals but different RR's had different rules.
I only use two, one on the turnout to indicate if the switch is set to go straight on (green) or red (diverging).
The signal on the diverging track will show green if the switch is set to that route, red if not.
The third signal past the switch shoud show the same as the one before the turnout, not sure why, possibly simply a safety thing.
Ground or Dwarf signals would usually only be used on a switching yard, or similar, and sometimes tunnels and the suchlike where clearance is an issue.

Edit.

just realised the signal past the turn out was most likely to confirm the position of the turnout.

I need to install another two signals for that particular intersection :)

This is what I am working off of for placement:

Tony: Probably splitting hairs: Looks like you are half way there. What about trains from the other direction: I.E. top to bottom of the pix? 2 more signals are needed to protect the main line ( and turnout ); one on the main, tother on the divergent route. Both of these are on the frog side of the turnout facing outward.

Also, the Red aspect is usually used to show the next block is occupied -or- or a turnout with the points not aligned. Divergent routes are usually Yellow ( restricted ) telling engineer that the turnout is short/sharp AND as long as the block is clear. Green works if you have 'high speed points/frog'.

Signal masts can go on either side of the track. You want to place them where it is obvious to what the signal is protecting.

You need more to do .... right?
